Science Channel, a division of the Discovery network, has plans to bring the experiment-driven show to their station, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Before the series starts up again, however, the channel will host a reality show to find new, charismatic hosts.

Search for the Next Mythbusters will feature 15 competitors tackling both older myths that Jamie and Adam may have come across during their 14 seasons on air, as well as new myths that have yet to be busted. Like most reality shows, contestants will be eliminated week after week as voted on by a panel of judges. The judges, who have yet to be announced, will all have had previously worked with the former Mythbusters team in some way or another.

Talk about a channel not understanding WHY a show was successful....

It had nothing to do with judges voting or anything like that. It really hinged on Jamie and Adam and the unique skills they brought to it, as well as their using scientific method and being very UN "reality show" (no personal drama at all).

It does not make any sense. What myths are able to be judged and voted on? You prove that things are myth or not myth. That takes scientific testing and Jamie and Adam did their brand of hard science to prove things one way or another. How do you form a panel and have judges to do the same thing?

Exactly. This isn't something you can vote on.

The show succeeded for 14 years (and would still be going now except Jamie Hyneman decided to spend more time with his family being in his 60s) in good part because of the skillsets that Adam, Jamie and the other varied cohosts brought to the table.

Adam and Jamie are both accomplished SFX creators (Industrial Light and Magic). Jamie also has background in mechanical engineering. Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci are also from Industrial Light and Magic, and Grant has a background in robotics. Kari Byron is actually the only one of the cohosts not coming from such a background directly - she is a sculptor and worked for Jamie in SFX creating models.

Going back a bit, Scottie Chapman brought expertise in metallurgy, welding, mechanics and metalcraft.
