Videogame cartoon adapations!

Sigh... This topic has gotten me watching all these intros to cartoons I watched as a kid on youtube. For better or worse, I've come across cartoons based on videogames that time has made me forget. Like movie adapations, these cartoons were almost universally bad across the board.

There were actually 3 different Mario cartoons. This one, Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 (yes that was the title) and Super Mario World. All of them were pretty bad but Mario isn't exactly that great of source material to make an episodic series from

I think this show needs no introduction :icon_lol:. This show is notoriously bad. It's unfortunate because Zelda has the potential to be a great series.

I fucking hate Sonic the Hedgehod but I have to admit he actually fared much better in cartoons than Zelda and Mario Bros. There were two series that aired during the 90's. The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog which was extremely dumbed down and the one featured here which was a more serious take on the series. Unfortunately this show played a part in spawning "furries" Well if you don't know what "furries" are, you are blessed because I wish I didn't.

"Now I've got your power" This wasn't too bad.

The attention to source material was awful. None of the characters resemble the way they are in the video games. Mega Man the character often referred to as the "BLUE BOMBER" is fucking GREEN(?) and sounds like chain smoker. Simon Belmont looks like Cid from FF7 and "Kid Icarus" isn't Pit's name...

Not great source material to work with. For some reason Darth Malak from Star Wars: KotR wants Pacman's power pellets. :icon_lol:

There were a whole bunch of cash-ins on the fighting game craze. Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat etc all had cartoon adaptations but the worst was:

Darkstalkers! If there was a good use for this :puke: smiley besides SGU, this is it.

Well besides the ones I've seen that have been mentioned already

I used to plead to stay up late so I could watch "Are you afraid of the Dark?"

But yeah, I remember watching all that Nintendo-related crap (Except SMB World), back when I thought Nintendo was god (I drove my parents nearly insane with my demands for an NES at the time :icon_lol:).

I liked Are You Afraid of the Dark but the only problem was the show wasn't even remotely scary. It wasn't scary as a kid and I borrowed the entire series on DVD last year and I can say haven seen every possible episode that show was not scary in the slightest. There were some legimately well written and entertaining stories (as well as a more than a fareshare of snoozers as well) but what I find interesting watching in retrospect is seeing and recognizing all the child actors who eventually went on to do bigger things. Jewel Staite was actually in atleast two episodes (Watcher's Woods and atleast one other).

Just for fun as well, This show has what they call a "time tunnel" that the train drives through to reach different time periods in the Mezazoic era, and when the train has fully entered the tunnel, three, ring shaped puffs of smoke come from the tunnel, and whilst inside the tunnel, it looks exactly the same as "warp speed" from Trek.

Must be a Scifi show..........

I still find some of the episodes scary when rewatching "Are you afraid of the Dark"?
