isaac Asimov Birthday today & National Science Fiction Day!

Today is National Science Fiction Day, in part to honor the birthday of Isaac Asimov. To celebrate the sci-fi literary genius, here are some fun facts about his out-of-this-world life and career.

This guy to this day is one of the most inspirational writers of our time. Today was his birthday - although, no one exactly knows when he was born not even his parents knew so he put this as his date.

He also died tragically by been given blood that was infected with HIV and he later got AIDS which sadly took his life, but people should read of how freakishly he predicted the future...Some 50 years into the future.

Asimov was a great writer. Without him I highly doubt the genre of science fiction, both literary and cinematic, would be anywhere near as good as it is. :encouragement:

I too worship at the altar of Asimov - sorry no one else even comes close IMHO. What I find amusing is he admits he never thought smoking would become unpoular. He has smoking happening in most of his stories- BUT he was a life-long non-smoker! Also writing seemed to run in his family -his brother was a journalist. His legal birthdate was 2 Jan 1920 - he said they had to put a specific date on his immigration & naturalization papers so he considered it his birthday. I love his autobiography (yep it's in my collection.... ) if you can find I, Asimov read it- his sense of humor shines through.
