Do we seriously not have more important problems to spend law enforcement time and money on?

So, if you know my predilection in political and social issues, then I think you know how I stand on this issue.

What do you think? I have been half way following this saga as I have a cousin who is in law enforcement in this Ohio town. He thinks its damn silly. He also tells me that after investigation there is NO evidence of forced prostitution or human trafficking. Americans just don't get the asian perspective on non-commitment sex.

Interestingly, there is one parlor in the city that has no asians but white and black women, they have not been touched and the asian spa owners are considering a suit on racial grounds. Well, they do say asians are more industrious at every money making scheme. Is this just a new take on the 1970's and 80's "rice burner smashings?" (when american car workers would destroy japanese better made cars)

Warren is a dump. A prime example of "rust belt" town. These parlors were probably some of the single highest tax payers in the city. The city has a huge street walker and drug problem. All girls taken on the raid were drug tested and std tested by law enforcement (that is, with tax money) and all came up clean. In the end, no arrests were made of either customers or workers, but 10 of the 12 shops closed and went elsewhere. The two remain opened and now pay higher license fees. The last link shows how the city is saving face (they need the cash!) by "reworking" the codes.

the women in this video are some real "crotch" crusaders and fit the bill of "uptight". They use newspaper and web ads that show "scantily clad asian women" as evidence of misconduct. However, as my cousin pointed out to me. these are stock photos and not the women in the parlors. One sight even used pics of Grace Park (BSG's Athena, #8) from her MAXIM appearance)

I know that some of you in other countries will just say "wtf is wrong with americans" as some of you have totally legal and regulated Nevada style prostitution. But what do you think of this case?
thx

I'm fairly Libertarian when it comes to this stuff but...I see nothing wrong with having oversight to ensure that minors and foreigners aren't being exploited in the industry. I also have no problem with zoning of such activity.

yeah what ape said. as long as there are no minors or forced prostitution - keep the girls(and guys) safe with testing and health care and let it go.

according to my cop cousin-they all checked out...in individual interviews in their native language they all say no coercion and all are either us cit's or perm green card holders. seems all of the vietnamese involved are from one large ext family from texas

they were licensed and were/are paying quite a bit in taxes to all levels of government

many feel this action was to keep the 'prudes' happy and-oh yeah, there was an election coming up

it was the election- somone wanted to run on an anti-crime platform!

Hmm... I wonder what you Americans would think of the type of prostitution law we have over here in Sweden, and which is being considered to be implemented by France as well, wherein it is the actual purchase* of sexual services which is criminalized, and not the selling.

*The actual pimping, running of a brothel, etc. is of course still illegal as well.

Us Americans wouldn't think anything of Swedish laws or French laws as we're happily myopic in what interests us. If it doesn't happen within the borders of the "lower 48" then we really don't care. Hawaii is a vacation spot and Alaska is considered a part of Canada and therefore both are highly irrelevant when it comes to our daily intellectual musings. And if we're not gonna pay attention to two of our own states we sure as hell ain't gonna waste our mental capacities on someplace foreign, someplace that sounds like an imaginary land from a Tolkien book.

BTW -- American Idol starts Wednesday night. Don't miss it!!!:welcoming:

I despise reality TV with the fire of a thousand suns just before they go supernova.

Oh yeah, duh. Silly me, forgetting something like that. It's like forgetting that your two main food groups are cheese and bacon. ;)

Ok, sidenote-I am not a 'purveyor' of any of this (now 20-25 yrs ago-diff story)

Here is something else I found. It is related-as to our sometimes crazy "morals" here-

Now this woman says she hasn't done this for quite a while and is not currently involved.

But yet she was fired, and a three judge panel held up the decision:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?cs=bz&p=Porn star teacher&fr=fp-tts-701-r21&fr2=ps

Now the real story, if there is one here, is why are middle school kids surfing the net for porn, so much that they found the teacher? With the amount of porn out there, they must have been looking quite a bit. To me, "unregulated" (as in, "yes Jimmy, that is what happens when 2 ppl..." speech) access by kids is a much bigger problem then this woman paying her bills and not committing a criminal act to do it.

She must have found some of the only hardline, conservative judges in Ca.

Word was probably out that this chick had done porn. Stuff like that isn't easy to hide. And if it wasn't a well known fact it's still possible for others to chance across this info. Hell, back in the pre-internet 90's I found out a friend of mine had done porn simply by seeing his face on the cover of a video tape that was on display...somewhere.

just seems to me that this, and so much more of our current society-goes against what americans still portend to believe in; work hard, study, get promoted, etc, make your life and hopefully others (like teaching school) better. Has anyone looked at her performance as a teacher? Who knows, maybe her kids are getting better standardized scores and some other vindictive teachers 'outed her' to the kids?

Same thing with SOME criminals. Why do we bother to arrest and lock someone up temporarily when after they do their 'rehabilitation'(a serious misnomer) they can find no job or a job that is below a living standard? Better we just shoot them dead on the spot instead of going through the comedy of the crim justice system becasue like the teacher-the 'rehabilitated ex con' has no place in american society per many low information americans

Actually no, that would have been creepy. He was my friend after all. My mind just can't make the disconnect that way. :disturbed:
