Funny, I thought the same thing in the folder where you all appeared to be judging a dude with tats with respect to his sexual attractiveness.

I may be a bigot, but I like what women have.

In that dude's defense, he did have "bitch tits". ;)

S6 E21 has got to be the most un-star trek like episode ever

complete with a woman of mystery (prophet possessed Nerys) with the blowing hair--when nothing else in scene is blowing

there seem to be a lot of 'phoned in' eps in s6. strange as one of the best eps of the series is on s6 - IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT,, great episode

Elim Garak- saviour of the alpha quadrant!

-------------
and ep24 TIMES ORPHAN, eek what a waste of film!

but, all in all, DS9 was a great show, painful to watch back when it was airing --s1 really dragged-- binging it makes so much better

another thing TPTBS were not convincing on

the whole 'the federation and starfleet are not military organizations!' line

then, invasion and presto! they are soldiers!

there is simply no way i can buy that a organization-filled with geeky scientists ad explorers, can suddenly shift into combat specialists when they were never 'a military organization'
-------------

now of course the fall back this issue is the klingon-romulan-federation alliance

those two were military organizations. klingon warriors and romulan soldiers (remans too), must have defi made they difference for the 'good guys'

this show also (intentionally?) showed the inherit fault of the federation in its NOT being a military and its inability to flex and successfully defend all of its member planets (betazed for one)

isn't a requirement for membership to the Fed for a world to join was that the planet had to disband its military and turn over its defense to the Fed.?

what kind of deal is that? 'shut down your military, we'll defend you.' then war starts and the Fed's excuse is 'we are spread so thin'

this takes me to why people like the andorians gave up their Imperial Guard force and those kick ass warships they had in lieu of inferior starfleet vessels.

anyhow--- i ramble :)

one element that may have made the show even more interesting (in the ares where it was interesting) would have been to have Sisko be a Vulcan and not a human

think about how a Vulcan would have had to turn everything he or she believed in on its head to accept being named the emissary and to put up with all the religiosity of the Bajorans?

and how much more complexity would have been involved if that Vulcan Sisko would have been forced to accept that his mother was 'inhabited' by a Prophet?

The character could have still had their son with them, and had a parent on Vulcan who had a restaurant there-- in fact, I would rather have learned more about Vulcans in this show as we did about Klingons and Ferengi and Trill, and Bajorans

was Kira Nerys a 'Mary Sue', a 'GI Jane' or a proto SJW/fem-warrior character type?

i mean there was certainly a lot of what we see now with female characters in movies and shows today with these attributes

we saw her having relationships with nearly everyone, going into combat whilst pregnant, beating the hell out of males larger than her.=etc,etc,etc.

was she overdone?

Nerys was overdone for sure. However she had very definite flaws and weaknesses and also an arc where she developed. Mary Sue's have no weaknesses and no arc either - they are just awesome from the start.

No, not a Mary Sue at all. I do think she was overdone, particularly her irreverence in Season 1 of DS9. I think they were trying to channel Ro Laren, but Nana Visitor could not pull that persona off. She was way more balanced in Season 2 and beyond. The only Mary Sue I have seen in Star Trek is Michael Burnham, but STD is not real Star Trek, so does she count?

Agreed. I think Michael Burnham is the clearest example of a Mary Sue I have seen in Star Trek. I can't really think of any others except Wesley Crusher.

Michael Burnham is possibly the biggest Mary Sue ever. The only other one that comes close is Captain Marvel. Burnham makes Rey look like a balanced character by comparison.

I read somewhere that Kira was partly based on Celtic women too.
'wouldn't surprise me

a lot of women in celtic based literature and in legends are exactly like her.

related= the religion of bajor also has loose similarities with the ancient celtic and aryan vedic religions-which also had parallels and similarities with each other

so is Kira a GI Jane or a all around, proto SJW/FEMDOM warrior?

not saying she fits either perfectly, but her character (and others throughout entertainment) definitely has some connections to what has followed in tv and movies up to today
