What is so good about this show?

How can people stand watching this and Breaking Bad? I got sick of watching the walking dead. This seems just like overbudget stuff with that dark gritty crap. I don't know but this isn't the show for me. I don't see the appeal other than pirates making it more popular than it needs to.

I think he means Game of Thrones.

Yeah, I don't get the GOT hype. It's gotten ridiculous lately. It's nothing more than heavy marketing that isn't based in reality. They have tried to make it appear that millions and millions of people are clamoring for more of this show, which isn't the case. They've also done their best to sneak talk about it into popular culture, as if the average person is supposed to get the reference. Lame.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a dedicated fan base for this show. But it's definitely nowhere near as large as the HBO marketing department is trying to make it appear. As it is I don't know anyone who watches the show. I have never even had a conversation with anyone to talk about the show. The topic simply doesn't come up in social conversation even though we discuss all manner of TV shows and movies. The closest we've ever come to discussing this show would be in the context of talking about cutting the cord with cable TV as channels like HBO are simply not worth the premium that they charge.

hey HBO and showtime are free with my PSVUE subscription on my ROKU TV--i think it was a limited offer they had going when i signed up. trying to beat out SLING.

anyhow, i get them for free now, not that there is a whole lot worth watching on either of them :(

#1. Nothing in this world is free.

#2. As you have noticed HBO has shit offerings. They have to offer a "free" package cuz they suck and they know it.

#3. Nothing in this world is free.

#4. Nothing in this world is free.

#5. HBO is desperately hyping Game of Thrones because they know viewership is dropping off.

#6. Nothing in this world is free.

#7. HBO is cancer.

#8. Nothing in this world is free, especially the cancer you will get from watching HBO. F*ck HBO.

correct

look idk how they do it, but HBO and showtime are obv interested enough in streaming providers like PSVUE, SLING and soon to be youtube tv and hulu live that they just must be 'eating' the cost

all i know that i pay the same monthly price for the package i have and hbo and showtime are still free

if you go to sign up now--unless they are having another 'fire sale' :) you'l see where those 2 are normally considered extras and you pay extra

that i would not do

Personally I believe HBO is living off its old reputation. There are no good movie offerings on it anymore. When I had DISH they would run an HBO "free weekend" a couple times a year. I never had a problem catching up on shows like GoT for free. And the rest of the content would be boring, second rate shit. I literally couldn't find anything to watch on those free weekends.

i remember those weekends when we had directv and then dish before that

at one time, like at least 15 yrs ago, iot seemed they at least ry to pack the weekend full of variety with top movies old and new and of varied genres, trying to capture the most possibilities/ large net kind of thing

last one i remember before dumping directv- it was just the normal programming-like they don't even try anymore

the only movie channel i can recall that puts any effort into that stuff and seems to have decent programming regularly is STARZ. even diff channels for diff genres.

now, if there is a new movie that i really want to watch, if it does not come out on HBO or showtime and if i just cant wait for it to hit one of the streamers, then i'll buy it on google play on the roku. once you buy or rent, you can watch it on youtube as well so long as you are logged in with your google acct.

I never did get it. I watched the first episode, and when the king or squire or whomever it was just beheaded this guy in front of his family, and had the kid watch, I was immediately turned off it. I am also not at all interested in medieval times or anything in the 17th, 18th or 19th centuries. Yet, all I hear is Game of Thrones! Game of Thrones! And somebody allegedly hacked some of the scripts for the upcoming episodes? Okay, but so what?

Game of Thrones is not on earth?

Yeah it's an alt universe/different world type of thing. There's some mystical elements to it, but it leans more towards human interaction. Mostly it's about various people vying for power and control in all these different kingdoms; wars between kingdoms and wars within kingdoms. That can be an interesting type of story but after awhile it gets tedious, especially when it devolves into lots and lots of extreme, demented violence. I "noped" out of there when a guy got his dick cut off. Enough said.

The last good show I liked from HBO was Band of Brothers which was somewhat semi historically accurate. Game of Thrones on the other hand just seems a drag to watch. I watched the first episode and then went...what on earth is this show really about? I don't mind that it's set in the medieval period but it's the storyline doesn't seem interesting. It seems like they just made this show so they could show some flesh and make some old fart's boring brick book popular. No one would watch it if the show didn't have good looking people and that's a fact.
