Still think Bryan Fuller didn't get asked to leave? I can hear the daily groans from him upon seeing drawings and concepts, then shouting and negotiation, then more shouting and going home early. It's a mess. What about all that talk about it being in the Prime universe? This Sarek is not convincing. And the walking in the desert, a Starship Captain and a Commander (Lieutenant? Can't be arsed to remember), with no aweigh detail and no guard?

OMG, did you see the dumb "warp" effect? But the biggest disappointment is those "Klingons". I did not like the ship we saw coming through the clouds. Not because it was a bad ship, but because it was all about the effect of this thing going through the clouds to create a visual "wow" factor. This thing will have NO science or restraint. It is purely about the saga and it's characters. Star Wars Trek lite. Oh, and they want to charge people to see it. Really?

The lense flare is used in this too but a lot more actually.

I am going to keep an open mind about this show. I know it's suppose to be star trek, but I am going to take it as a mass effect tv series which could work and can be quite enjoyable. The game mass effect is badass, but this is not star trek. The tech is too advance to fit into prime universe timeline of the original but this is going to be another enterprise my guess is.

I am also going to take that approach. It is so unlike any Star Trek that I cannot see it as Star Trek, and that means that those shiny effects and the (probably) un-Trek writing and direction will make it into a new show. What is going to irritate me, like what irritated me in the films, is the constant reference to things in actual Star Trek. They are going to be referring to Narn ripoffs as Klingons, and they are going to have a new Harry Mudd and this "Sarek" who will be speaking to "Starfleet" personnel who he never referred to in any of the later series.

The problem here is continuity and canon. We were told clearly that this show takes place in the prime universe. And just as clearly, that is not the case.

This looks better than discovery

They should have just called the show 'discovery' that would have worked. It doesn't need the star trek name.

And look at the aesthetic. This is NOT Star Trek, because it just isn't. Just by looking alone, we can see that the overall style of the "Klingon" uniform is fashion over form, ornamentation vs battle decoration. There is no hair, and the mouth/lips are exaggerated. This does not look like any Klingons ever. What does a female look like?.

Look at the architecture. More dumb ornamentation over form. Since when were the Klingons artisans?

Trekmovie has a long article trying to defend Discovery. They even mention specifically that it is going to be gritty and darker than usual for Trek like that is a positive. I guess they forgot how well the dark and gritty Nemesis did - it bombed so badly it almost killed Trek. They also tried to defend the bizarre looking visuals as a need to update the look of Trek.....right.

Their Klingons look horrible (as we said upthread kind of like Xindi reptilians) and their ship looks way too advanced for ten years before Kirk. Contrary to their belief you CAN update the visuals without these sorts of issues.

I will apologise first and say that, I have not read the last four pages, but I will say this.

What this all comes down to, again, is a big old conflict of interest between the older fans and the newer fans. There is an ugly fact that the older fans will eventually and literally, die off, and if these franchises are to stay around they must CHANGE and evolve. This creates the situation of said conflict of interest. Many older fans will scream, "Let my franchise die before it is so convulted!", and many will scream from the rooftops with joy that it still exists in it's new form. The new fans will either love the change, not care or simply hate it.

Sadly, they are making these shows for the masses and not just the old loyal fans.

Are they going to make drastic changes? Yes, absolutely. Will they claim they are still honouring the old while selling the new, for certain. Is this fair? Well, that is something that really could be seen as both fair and unfair. It really all depends on the perspective you are looking at this from. If you are an old fan and you hate the changes, no, this would be unfair to you. If you are a old fan and more tolerable or even like the new version, then yes, that is fair enough to you. If you are a new fan, and you don't like it, you simply don't care, and so fair to an extent. If you are a new fan and you like it, you are super happy you get to have a chance to enjoy the franchise and you are sooo calling this fair.

I won't make any judgement calls just yet. I will watch it, and I will keep an open mind. I really don't care if the Klingons look different or not. Let's remember the main reason of the simplicity of TOS was that they had no ability to have the CGI and advanced make-up techniques we have. TNG, Voygaer, DS9 and Enterprise just played around with the aliens noses and foreheads because they had limited resources. Farscape lived on body paint ( which made the blue chick quite sick and why she eventually quit). Back in TOS and original BSG it was all about wardrobe.

This is just ST 2009 all over again and for that matter, BSG. Look, I liked NuBSG too, and I know it was completely weird to have a female Starbuck and a billion other things. I also know that it was sooooo different from BSG original, but so what? It kept the franchise alive and there is always a chance yet another will rise from the ashes and that is makes me happy. BSG, ST, and SG will just fade away if the new fans are not catered too. They are simply not going to make the franchises they way they used to be because they all got cancelled in those forms. Those movies stopped making enough money and quite frankly, the generations of fans today need more tech, more glizt, more CGI and that's what they will get. They are also the generation of reality TV making nobodys into stars. They love this shit, they have short attention spans and Kodi and spend most of their time in some form, online looking into the latest new craze. Hollywood is also touchy feely and they are controlling the wheel to this ship. I do wonder about how much political correct bullshit will be shoved into our faces on this latest one. Nothing much to be done to stop any of it. So, bring on the evolution and let's see what comes out of the cocoon.

Or not. If you are happy to let them die, then don't watch and just keep your memories in your mind of your old shows. This is inevitable. I tried to get my daughter to watch the older ST TOS with us, she was bored senseless. She can also barely stand Voyager and TNG. Yet, she does very much enjoy the movies of JJ ST. Without the people of her generation, the franchise dies. This is a done deal.

Attention span of zero. It's mainly down to information overload. JJAbram does not do anything great for humanity other than try to retell a story that has been told already. What your daughter and a lot of idiots out there forget is how influential star trek in our modern day of life and humanity in general. It's all thanks for Star Trek we have tvs/your smartphones/tablets/skype and has inspired people to go into science. These inventions were ALL inspired by Star Trek.

This show tells you one thing, it's that not even the writers have faith in humanity anymore. It's as if the writers think, yup that's it - we have reached the pinnacle peak of the human race and now it's just trying to retell a bastardised version of what has already been told.

I am part of this new generation sadly. My people have an attention span of a few minutes and then we get bored easily.I try to speak to people about science/philosophy/literature/history/mathematics in my workplace, and not one moron is interested in it. They all want to watch The Kardishians or whatever that nonsense drivel that is on netflix, not about issac asimov's books or any other science fiction book.

The alone backlash tells you that not many are impressed with this series. They'll need to drastically change this series if they are wins the hearts of the fanbase but given that a few episodes has already been written and whatever Fuller wrote up has probably been thrown in the bin, shows that the show wants to follow the footstep of the tv movie franchise because that's where the money is. Netflix has already paid for the licence which has pretty much paid for the entire season for the show, so I don't think they are going to change anything. I think they are using this as a test pilot to see how it goes. I doubt it that it's going to see past season 1. We may only get 1 season even I bet.

Well, Kirk just gave a hint that he did not like the new look of trek. That account is legitimate on reddit so before you ask if it's him or not. He's quite lively on reddit and twitter. Perhaps the funniest man alive.

This moment on the star wars thread was priceless. Laughed my ass off

No absolutely there are footprints left on the show. Someone once described Bryan to me as a unicorn and that’s just the truth. He’s a one of a kind writer. He’s just unbelievably brilliant and I really, really loved working with him and I loved seeing the way that his mind worked. Bryan was very involved in American Gods and I think that the scope and scale of what Trek has become made it so that Bryan elected to say, ‘I don’t wanna short-change either of these two things,’ they’re both sort of beloved to him, so we sat down and we figured out how are we going to take what we can have of you and continue that through not only this season of Trek but hopefully set up things that are coming next season. So much of what’s there in terms of story and certainly in terms of set-up, character, big ideas, the big movement of the season, that’s all stuff that Bryan and I talked about.”

Omg wtf...?

Discovery is Dead On Arrival. That video you posted is probably the most informative and best commented video I have seen to date. It exactly expressed everything I have seen online and heard from friends I have (the rumors). So, it IS a reboot (as if we could not brightly see that). They turned off the original fanbase by trying to say that this was in the Prime timeline, and this video says that was a marketing trick? Well DUH, of course it's a trick. We know the Prime universe. We are also (on average) much smarter than the general TV/Movie watching audiences globally, which is why we see the Kelvin timeline and this crappy Discovery thing emerging from the ass of Kurtzman and friends as laughably stupid.

I can't WAIT for The Orville to come out! It will be a skyrocket, and just about every Star trek fan I know is salivating for it. Plus, we will get Axanar (the short version). From there, we can get Prime universe material from fans and have the Orville on TV, and Discovery can just go and do it's dumb production and be ignored. It is TRULY Star Trek in name only. Yet, The Orville is Star Trek TOS reimagined, even without the name. It's DNA is Star Trek.

Some of the rumours on that video seem to be a bit inaccurate. I went to check the production company behind star trek and I don't see bad robot as a production company.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5171438/companycredits?ref_=ttfc_sa_4

IMDB has also started ratings already ahahah when the show hasn't been aired to the public yet. Someone is rigging this. It's rated 8.4/10 and 10/10 on tv.com
kurtzman is still in the project.
http://www.tv.com/shows/star-trek-discovery/

All I see is that Bad robot is mentioned here but there is no source for it.

Didn't fuller mention that he left the show, because he wanted to concentrate on other project? Sorry I know this maybe a repeated discussion.

“Ultimately, with my responsibilities [elsewhere], I could not do what CBS needed to have done in the time they needed it done for Star Trek,” Fuller said. “It felt like it was best for me to focus on landing the plane with American Gods and making sure that was delivered in as elegant and sophisticated a fashion as I could possibly do.” Read more at http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/7...-star-trek-discovery-exit#fFjv5HQuXOK2X1AM.99

I can see that he may have said that to cover his backside and not be potentially be sued by CBS for Defamatory.
