Windows as a gaming platform cannot be beat.

I do not trust Microsoft enough to use them as my primary operating system. Im done with experiencing the slowdown of Windows towards death of the operating system after you have a year or so of surfing, installing programs, rebooting, crashing, etc. So, why the thread?

GAMING!

Nothing beats a high end Windows desktop for gaming. No console (including Microsoft’s own Xbox) can come close to what you get on a PC in terms of graphics, gaming control or overall user experience. Only on a PC based game can you modify files to change clothes, objects, even create your own environments or maps with so much control and so many options.

I had to give Microsoft props for Windows as a gaming platform, because nothing else out there comes close. I could see having a dedicated gaming box created from a Windows desktop with connected USB game controllers or wireless controllers and a big screen. :)

Direct X plus the ability to REALLY write drivers to the GPU in Windows have a lot to do with it.

It's called an X-box...................

The Xbox cant sit at the same table as a tricked out Windows gaming PC. :) A Microsoft Surface 3 connected to a big screen TV with two wireless force feedback controllers makes any game console seem like a toy.

Not only that, the best gaming graphics cards are designed to run on Windows. You have SLI, Crossfire, overclocking, you can run it with 16gb RAM, etc. Consoles are to PC gaming as the Gameboy is to Xbox.

Now Mint and Windows on the same machine as a dual boot...that was the solution for business and gaming. :) Mint is the default OS and I am in it all of the time I am not gaming. No gaming in Mint now, except the occasional MAME games like PacMan or Commando or Defender...between work. But gaming is on the Windows install. The Windows 7 side looks like this so far (click to enlarge):

That's the latest Intel iteration of "Devil's Canyon". Quad physical core with hyperthreading so 8 logical cores, overclocks easy and it starts out at 4 Ghz. Alas you also need a new motherboard for it unless your current one is socket 1151.

1151 will be the next socket standard from what I have been reading for serious over clockers and gamers

;) ;) ;)

Not bad! $479.99 CAD is about $9 USD. :icon_lol:

I am starting to think the same way.

On their US site the same processor sets you back $360.00

On top of that the variety of 1151 boards up here are slightly lacking. Due to my cheapness I will stick to the good old 1150 for a year or two.

It's really sad how we Canadians have to pay more for everything up here . That's $200 more average for each electronic piece that I would need to build a decent super fast machine for flight sim ... Not sure I can afford the latest and greatest ... In the states , I could easily ...

Our cars cost $10,000 more than yours do ... and some are built right here on Ontario !!!

;) ;) ;)

Dude, your current rig exceeds the maximum requirements of EVERY flight sim game on the market, by a very large margin. I suspect that you have not tweaked the game settings or your system to play them full on. Your current system should be able to play any game out there with no problem at all. Hell, with the power you have, even your VIRTUAL machines should be able to exceed the requirements for any game or sim.

That's a little simplistic. Most times, the same car in Canada is about 30% more expensive for no other reason than the market takes it.

A friend of mine purchased a brand new Lexus (I forget the model) in the US and imported it into Canada. After all was said and done, he saved a little over $24k going through the hoops to import it.

A new speedometer/odometer would be nice though since Canadian speed limits are marked in km/hr and US limits in mi/hr.

You are mistaken . My system is a full on amd/asus and it will not run win7 ... It bottle necks to no end with a full year of fighting , swapping parts, reinstallin and finally giving up and only installing linux as the operating system . It cannot run flight sim because it is asus/amd . The only thing that will run flightsim is an entirely intel built highest ghz proccessor and nvidea videao card ... Just search online and you will see that no one runs amd or radeon for flightsim. It has to be an intel system and even when running overclocked to 5 ghz it will still not be able to run at full sliders on FSX ...
Trust me on this . I know what I am talking about ...

Ah....that's right, you are AMD. :( Never buy AMD again. The "savings" is never worth it. I only buy Intel boards and processors, and only Nvidia cards.
