Just out of curiosity and maybe I like to torture myself but I wanted to try out one of my recently turned back to zero ssd's and see if I could install windoze . OMG lol .
What a horrible OS . First , it did not find drivers for the onboard ethernet . I had to go find the disk for my motherboard install and install the driver from there . Then it could not udate the video card . Once I got the internet up and running I installed the most recent vid driver . Surprisingly it found the onboard audio driver . It is still stalling on startup with a completely new install which tells me that AMD refuses to play nice with windoze but AMD loves linux completely and with open arms .
Another weird thing that has not happened before . Google Chrome showed up out of no where on the desktop . The only thing I can think of is it came secretly with the AMD 7870 vid driver download and I missed removing a checkmark somewhere . Its there now so I'll leave it but probly never use it .
Windows is currently doing a multitude of updates and malicious removal tool seems to be at the top of its list lol .
Overall though it seems pretty clean and responsive so far but I know that will not last long . Having had such a difficult time before with windows I am only gonna use this OS for my Avast Secureline subscription to run out as I paid for a full year already . This way I get to watch American Netflix .
Windows is installed on my cosair ssd and is quickly removable from my top load sata docking bay on the top of my case .
Also windoze found my other internal and external sata drives this time . Last time it was having a heart attack having more than one drive to deal with and some were actually never showing up .
Linux Mint found everything first go . What are they doing at MS thats makes windoze a pain in the butt to deal with .
Oh gotta go . Windoze has to restart to apply the updates that will make my rig eventually become uselessy slow to deal with and make me pull that ssd out in a fit of rage ...

Happy Windoze everyone !

NOTTTTTTT !!!

I don't get it. I've done dozens of Windows installs over the years and never had anything like the issues you describe.

I know !!! . Neither have I !!! . It just seems to be this configuration of an all Asus system . My other recent builds had been Intel with XP on 1 and 7 on the other.. Why this full Asus system is doing what it is , is very boggling . Not sure if you read my bottleneck thread but here is a list of units that broke and were replaced .
Went threw 3 motherboards-Sabertooth - replaced once then charged $140 for third board
2 Video cards- Asus 7870 - replaced no charge
1 1200watt -PSU - replaced no charge

All failed within 2 months of this build .
There has to be a glitch in this motherboard . Even though it has been replaced 3 times . The third one is a rebuild even though Asus should have replaced mine with a new one . They were being real asses about replacement . They said I bent a pin for the external Sata and 3.0 usb cable connection on the sent back board . The pin just fell off the board when I noticed it was bent a little . I tried to straighten it out and it just fell off . #1 board and #2 board had the bent pin issue . on 1 and 2 the bent pins fell off .The next board (#3) also had a bent pin which I was able to straighten without breaking off and felt much more firm than the 1 and 2 boards . They said I must have bent it . It was bent before I plugged the cable into ffs . One more reason why I will never buy from Asus again . There service is ridiculous . And obviously there quality has gone downhill not that I ever thought of Asus as being the best out there .
Left it running last night but windows decided to go to sleep . I have to check the power settings now . It did boot fast as hell though which surprised the hell out of me .

Meh, it happens. It happened to me when i updated Win 8.0 to 8.1 on this Sony laptop I'm using. I ended up wiping the drive clean and installed Mint on it.

That's not to say Linux was perfect, either. In one event a couple years ago, I started updating the CentOS 5.x kernel on a set of Dell R620s and a Dell R820 one evening during off peak hours. Well, the R820 went smooth so I started the process on the R620s and halted the whole thing because they kernel panicked. Luckily, they were all KVM'd so I was able to get to the virtual console to restart the servers and revert to the previous kernel until this issue was fixed in the release tree, otherwise I'd have been screwed.

Yes, I should have done them one at a time but sometimes we get comfortable with processes we've done an endless number of times in a short time period and, the one time I take a short cut by assuming "if it worked on the R820 everything is a go because Dell is Dell", they went down. :icon_lol:

The assumption was based on the fact they they all had the same hardware, just different quantities of storage and RAM. The only difference, which I neglected to take into account, was a firmware version difference in the RAID controllers, which caused the kernel to panic and halt. :(

Virtual machines are a magical tool that is a must have when your home is Linux. The ONLY reason I haver a dual boot for Windows is because my host machine does not play my games well enough, even with 80% of available memory given to the host. When I upgrade my host, Im going to dump the dualie and go virtual with my gaming machine within Mint.

WTF is with Windoze . Only plugged it in yesterday to try something in Windoze . My puter fans are screaming after windows has been on for 24 hrs strait with no games installed and just surfing the web . I have my house set to 60f during the day so heat is not an issue here . I have a toque on and a sweatshirt . No uploads or downloads running . I never hear my puter when Linux is running . Gonna pull that ssd and stay with Linux lol ...
