Wait...Disney tried to reboot The Lone Ranger? Seriously? No wonder it bombed.

The Lone Ranger??? In 2014? In the 21st Century????????

Who was going to watch this, corpses? I did not know this thing was even made, let alone released and bombed already. Disney is run by old farts who remember The Lone Ranger and Donna Reed and the days of Big Valley and Gunsmoke. First, they tried to do John Carter, now this? I do not think any of the Millenials would find any sort of western movie or show set in the 1800s interesting. There was nothing good about those times, nothing to root for, nobody interesting to follow as a character. This goes for all western heroes...Jesse James, Doc Holliday, even Bonnie and Clyde of later times. None of this is going to fly in the 21st century. What are they going to try next...Gone With The Wind? Disney is way out of step.

Actually that happened back in 2013 and was both a complete bomb at the box office and one of the worst movies made since the Star Wars Prequels (with which it shares some of the same problems). It was actually the slick young marketing types who pushed this idiotic project as they thought they could transplant the formula that worked well in Pirates of the Caribbean to The Lone Ranger - it didn't. Depp instead of being entertaining was annoying, the plot was nonsensical, it was too long and it got the character dynamic backwards.

Yeah I guess it bombed big time. Much like everyone else, I have zero interest in seeing it.

A western? Really? They were getting long in tooth even during my dad's time. At one time, every drama on TV was set in the frontier west or the prairie, and all had horses in them. Today, who would watch any of that? You cant reboot Lone Ranger, Gone with the Wind, Big Valley, Gunsmoke, Bonanza...etc. Cant be done successfully no matter who makes them or how much money is spent on them. It's the subject matter. Can you imagine them trying to reboot All in the Family or I Dream of Jeannie? I can just imagine the furor the first time Jeannie calls Maj Nelson "Master".

You can no longer do Westerns in America and have them be successful. You cant do The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, not even Gilligan's Island. You cant show blacks being servants in homes, you cant show cowboys slaughtering Indians, you cant show women being passive and subservient like Donna Reed and I Love Lucy, and you cant glorify anything which happened during colonial times and expect audiences to love it.

I think it is obvious that Disney is run by old coots from a different era. To them, a shiny new western sounds great. Reboot Gone With The Wind? Sure, why not?
