Under The Dome - Anybody watching this show?

I just got hip to this show, and I am wondering if anyone here knows about it? There is already one season and season two has been approved. The premise is that the town of Chester's Mill is suddenly enclosed within a mysterious dome which traps residents inside. On the outside, the military tries to study the dome, and they attempt to destroy it (even if it meant that the people inside were killed). But the dome is impervious. Think...Atlantis with the shield on all the time.

This is standard, formulaic soap-fi similar to Defiance and Terra Nova, but in today time. Meh, it is Stephen King inspired, but so far I see it deviating from its premise. Anybody else watching this?

There is a thread for it, I think shaved started it.

I searched before I created this one...:( You have any idea what the title of the thread is? I can merge this into it.

Not off hand, no. I don't even know where to search as keywords "under the" in title kicks back a fail :(

Exactly. :( I always search first before starting new threads, just to be sure there is no duplicating. If we find it, I can still merge it though.

This show...it evidently is based on a book by Stephen King, but now I want the book because the show is being stretched out beyond reason. I went to the website at CBS to see what more zi could find, and there is a store on there

http://www.cbsstore.com/under-the-d...he-dome&ecid=PRF-CBS-300147&pa=PRF-CBS-300147

In the show, there is Microsoft Surface product placement, Dodge vehicles (even a Dodge Charger), a lesbian married couple, cliche characters and canned character attributes. This is stictly formulaic TV. But the book cant be...can it? Im on episode 8 of the season 1 marathon I am watching. :)

You have got me here, I have not read under the dome, but knowing King these days, it would be a "Logan's run" type deal with his own moral twist. I saw the first few eps, and it really looked like a "lost island/lord of the flies" kind of concept.

The search feature on Xenforo sucks ass. Even if you select to search thread titles only it still bombs on words it deems to be too common, as if it is oblivious to the fact that titles are a few words and don't contain pages of words.

It caught my eye on the Amazon Prime search (like BB AP puts up the latest ep soon after it has aired). The 1st ep is the best-it does go downhill to "predictability city" real quick.

But since I am a sucker for non-stand alone ep series shows like this, it is like looking at a car wreck; hard to take my eyes off of.

IMO, "Big Jim Rennie" is the most interesting character on the show. Since I started watching this before Breaking Bad, I was lucky to see that this actor can be even better then his performance in DOME. (He plays a key character in BB for those of you "under that rock" :topsy_turvy: )

I fixed this issue once before....reindexing. BRB!

This show is produced by Stephen Spielberg and Stephen King is the EVP. Impressive. I actually like this show a bit...they manage to create the same dynamic as in the other formulaic shows but the premise works in this show very well. This show is in today times, has no magic or aliens or pew pew...and there is enough mystery and intrigue in the show to balance out the interpersonal stuff...some cool reveals, and yes, Big Jim Rennie is the most interesting character. But I do like Barbee and Julia and the other cast too.

Im watching the Finale episode 13 right now. Season two already approved. :)

The Finale was cool...

I think they left it on a good note, but they could easily kill the momentum of season 2 if they allow Barbie to be executed. Big Jim is a big part of this show but not so big that he can continue his Caesar-like control over Chester's Mill. He is the villian who needs to be brought to justice now. The show can go on very well without him...if the choice has to be made between him and Barbie, that is. Junior has to decide whose side he is on.

What bothers me is this:

http://screenrant.com/under-the-dome-season-2-renewal-stephen-king/

After hitting the ratings jackpot with its adaptation of Stephen King’s weighty tome Under the Dome, CBS just announced that the summer series will be back for season 2 in 2014, and, as an added incentive for fans to tune in, the network has managed to strike a deal with King that would see the prolific author step in and script the season premiere.

Although only halfway through its first season, Under the Dome has proven to be a ratings winner; averaging around 13.84 million viewers every week with more added once on-demand and DVR figures wind up being tallied. In addition, the series has also become a huge hit for Amazon Prime Instant Video, which provides subscribers access to new episodes four days after they initially air. According to Amazon, the show “has been watched by more customers than any other series on the service.”

Naturally, the high ratings – especially for a summer series – and the positive response from the Amazon streaming outlet has CBS committed to stretching the series’ storyline for as long as the audience continues to check in on the trapped residents of Chester’s Mill. After the pilot episode nabbed incredibly high numbers, executive producer Brian K. Vaughan spoke about how the series would eventually have to move away from a direct adaptation of the novel, in order to accommodate the story requirements of what is now ostensibly and ongoing series.

Translation: The storyline in the book is the real deal, and the series will add FILLER for as long as the audience gobbles it up...then, it will (cancel without a real ending) stop?

Im gonna buy the book. This show is one of the better soap-fi shows because it isnt too soapy and it isnt magical or too over the top. Stephen King involved directly in it is something new. If you have Amazon Prime, this is worth checking out for sure. Otherwise:

What about the "being" in the form of the dead mother in the forest? Alien or biblical?

Reindexing will make it stop complaining that words searched in "title only" are too frequent and common? :D

Titles comprise such a tiny fraction of the searchable content that it shouldn't complain even if the word "the" alone is searched.

Definitely alien. Not much religion in this one....a bit, but not much. If anything, a mockery of it.

I have to click "More", then use the Advanced Search and it finds keywords within posts and not just the titles. :)

I am pretty sure there are aliens involved-or some type of unknown terrestrial "others".

Yep. The apparition the "four" saw (plus Julia) of the dead mother said "We are still trying to communicate with you, I have been created to bridge the gap" or something to that effect. It is definitely not "magical". The military seems to know something about this though....I will miss Doty (Dora?). Who will be the geek now? John the kid? The show was good enough for me to want watch the entire series episodes back to back in a marathon. :) All in all, not bad at all.
