The Knick

If your interested in a bit of medical history then you must watch this HBO Series . A bit hard to watch for my stomach but my wife loves period peices and I'm watching along .
It is set in the year 1900 . Of course she also wacthes Downton Abbey . How they did this period peice is quite something to see . It is a marvel of time travel and medical not knowing how and is quite graphic in nature in the operating theater . Rather primitive as you will see .

Ok so this show is quite something to watch as it is the year 1900 . Just spectacular sets , streets and buildings . It is before the motor car . The graphic nature of the hospital surgery is pretty gory at times but it shows you how it was back then and be very thankful we are in a modern surgical world .
One really weird thing though . The musical soundtrack is just the nuttiest I have ever heard especially for a drama such as this . Very very strange .

Yeah I liked the beginning bits, the world building, then it got too crazy with the drug stuff. For a tv show, it's very cinematic looking and sometimes too stylish/modern with the choice of music and characterizations. Clive Owen is a pretty good actor in this, despite his crappy character. I hate that the nurse has the hots for him; he's corrupted her to me forever now. I was hoping she'd rise above the 'fall for the stereotypical bad boy charm', but alas.

Also hi everyone, been too busy to do anything this semester.

I'm up to ep 7 and I'm not sure I can watch it any more because of the violence . It's quite extreme as is the surgery . Very very painfully violent ,,, .

I was able to get through to the last episode as it got a little less violent and graphic . Recommend it completely .

Yeah black doctor's fighting schtick is kinda dumb, had lots of respect for him before when he just wanted to break barriers for blacks into the medical field and giving up his better off position in Europe, but that fighting crap was just that, crap. Guess they're trying to add flaws for the sake of storytelling.

I could not stand more than 30 minutes of this show. Not at all into the early 20th century period pieces. The over the top graphic stuff is just too much. I want to be entertained, not nauseated. You guys can have this one!

For me I really appreciated how they made the clocks turn backwards visually . As for the violence , it was quite disturbing . Why the black doctor got into putting his dukes up made no sense at all .
If they do a season 2 , I won't be watching it . I'm not a big fan of that era either but like I mentioned before , they did a bang up job on the historical view of the 1900's . Be glad you were born in the 50's or 60's like me or even later ...

Did you guys no that mental institutions have only recently in the past 20 years or more closed there doors ?
Nuts huh ! Forgive the punn ...

Having a son with Autism really makes me glad they are not as they were if any are still running . When I was young they were called ( looney bins ) ( nut house ) and probly a few other names for them that I can't remember .

They were called asylums out this way. People could commit their children, relatives or parents to them against their will at one time.

I am offended by the word asylum because of the quality of movies they do accept for Z Nation which is great to watch lol .
