KGB agents living double lives as a suburban family in the 80s and somewhat during the Cold War obviously. They even have kids and whatnot. They do a lot of spying, intelligence, and other wetwork while leading their double lives. Two things I really like about the show:
The characters are pretty well written and compelling. You think oh KGB spies, screw them. They're commies! But nope, it's very well written and shows the other side. Shows both sides in fact. They're more than just spies. They are compelling as people in their own way and a big part of me hopes that they make it in the end, mostly because of how they are to their kids. They just try to be good people underneath everything.
The other thing is the spying and intelligence work they do. It's all old school, before all this craptastic satellite and network and high tech kinda spying. It's old school and requires more ingenuity behind it. There's codes, there's old school wiretapping, just everything that makes the spying more rustic? and compelling, I can't think of the right word. It's not the flash and razzle dazzle crap we have nowadays. And none of the 'badass gunman that never misses shoots bad guys down like nothing and all that being passed off as spying'. Nope, it shows the more lengthy process of intelligence gathering as well as the disconnect from the bigger picture that spying involves. It feels a lot more authentic. Anyways, I definitely recommend you guys at least give the first season a try, only 13 episodes. The writing's fairly tight.
