I'll believe it when I see it.

There is a chance that if the WWE network takes off they will be removing their shows from, umm, "mainstream cable" so some Syfy fans will be happy :P

I'll believe they're serious when they get rid of those lame reality shows, WWE and stop playing crap like "My Big Fat Geek Wedding".

Seriously. Who the f**k is running programming at Syfy?!?

This is the question I always pose to the WWE "haters" on Syfy.
Would you accept 2 hours of what you consider bullcrap, for 2 hours of *quality* Sci-fi?

Quite frankly, Syfy can run 160 hours a week of utter dreck for all I care, *as long as* I get 8 hours of new sci-fi a week.

I agree with the sentiment but Syfy should just be sci-fi. There are so many old sci-fi shows they can be running all week.

But that is the question, could Syfy exist by just doing that *and* support new shows?

Sure. The reality shows aren't exactly busting viewer numbers, so, I don't see an issue with them being dropped. They just cost nothing, like old syndicated sci-fi shows. The old sci-fi reruns probably won't grab a bigger audience but they would keep the current ones happy and watching more.

They would probably do better by dropping the stupid supernatural reality shows and rerunning QUALITY scifi while running new science fiction programming.

Does this mean Marcel's Quantum Kitchen is coming back? I hope this Dave Howe person isn't toying with our emotions! :concern:

what is "good" is subjective, and I won't get into that kind of discussion here, and if shows cost bugger all, and create surplus cash for actual SCI-FI, then I say let it happen. I don't tend to watch more than 3-4 hours a week of ANY channel, so why should I care about the other 160 odd hours they make money off?
We are talking about entertainment here, nothing else.

“We want to be the best science fiction channel that we possibly can,” said SyFy president Dave Howe. “And in some respects, that means going back to the more traditional sci-fi/fantasy that fans often say they feel we’ve exited. We’re going to occupy that space in a way we haven’t for the past few years.”

LOL! I guess wrestling and soap-fi isnt doing all that great for them? :) I LOLed at this:

SyFy is looking for its next Battlestar Galactica and that is the main reason it has decided to stop putting its resources in continuing some favorites on the channel they feel have run their course, such as Being Human and Warehouse 13. While these are fair ratings shows the network wants the time, money and people resources spent on them to go toward more expansive, grittier and sci-fi centered programming along the lines of Battlestar Galactica and its current blockbuster hits like Defiance and its international entry of Continuum. With those two latter programs the network has seen a return of its most important 18-to-40 male demographic and NBCU wants to build on that success.

That already tells me that Syfy isnt serious. They first have to know what science fiction is.

LMAO! I laughed at that too. :) They also said SGU was a blockbuster hit too...all the way into the second half of season 1. :)

That was one of the most ridiculous shows ever created. :)

I think it's too late. They dissed the fans of science fiction repeatedly, and the name change to Syfy was done specifically to "get away" from the science fiction roots and reach this magical "expanded audience". They failed. Now they want us back? Not with Defiance and Helix they wont. :)

I thought you liked Helix. I keep trying to watch it but I get bored about 10 minutes in. :(
