Star Trek: Renegades needs fan help

Star Trek: Renegades is hoping to create a “full new Star Trek pilot” in hopes of getting an online or cable series from CBS.

To produce their pilot, Star Trek: Renegades has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise revenue for the project.

The Renegade story will begin “ten years after Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant,” with “the Federation … in crisis. Someone has caused space and time to fold around several planets, all of which are the Federation’s main suppliers of dilithium, essentially cutting off the supply for several millennia. Starfleet’s methods to stop those responsible have been ineffective. This necessitates more drastic measures, some of which are outside the Federation’s jurisdiction. It now falls to Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, and Commander Tuvok, Voyager’s former security officer and new head of the clandestine Section 31, to put together a new covert, renegade crew – primarily comprised of outcasts, rogues and even criminals. But can they refrain from killing each other to accomplish their task? That may be the bigger question.”

I suspect if they green light any new ST series it will be based on the Abram's vision. Gotta nab that teen market. ;)

okay chekov and Tuvok only existed in the same time in the PAST! a young Tuvok worked for Captain Sulu 80+ yrs ago! But the time voyager happened Chekov was probably long dead. :P yeah just enough of a trekkie to nit-pick!

Really? Did you click the link to the project site? http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/star-trek-renegades?show_todos=true

This is no fan project, this seems far more serious than that to me. Take a look at the cast, and look who is directing it (Tim Russ). Im actually going to donate to this. :)

Yes I read the link.

I agree with Backstep, the idea of the misfits trying to get over their personal problems while solving a greater issue is nothing really new and very easily fall into past pitfalls and traps typically the "Oh I know billions will die if I don't accomplish this mission, but god damn it I want my Twinkies back!". That is what I am personally worried about regardless who is directing or writing. Sorry but a bit jaded as of recently.

Unless, say they go down the route of Dirty Dozen blended with Mission Impossible (TV series) in Space. Now that would be kind of interesting to see (as in each one getting something in reward for doing this mission, such as a pardon, freedom, bio gel etc).

I'll keep an eye out on this one.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

will this begging bullshit kickstarter CRAP never end?

I can understand that kickstarter does seem like charity work but how else would they get financing for such a project if the executives are being stubborn idiots?

if it was finacially viable they would have had financing besides the whole thing sounds like crap anyway so no loss to anyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but has this kicktarter fund raising method ever produced anything? Off the top of my head I can't think of a single production that was done this way. Like I said earlier, there was a Firefly petition/fund drive thing awhile back but that disappeared.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not being a hater here, I'm just wondering if this method of financing for movies and TV shows is even viable. :daniel_new004:

Not a fan of the show but looks like this is going ahead.

There is also this game called star citizen which looks very promising.

I just read that over 15 million dollars has been donated to this game. I personally am looking forward to this game;).

Looks like it has reached its first 20,000 dollar goal :). It's probably wishful thinking that it will reach 200,000 dollars but words about this needs to spread.

I noticed, I donated, and this project is NOT in Abram's NuTrek timeline...it is set in the universe of the TNG/Voyager/DS9 timeline. :) Evidently, much of the money will go to pay for licensing from Paramount.

Speaking of Abram's nutrek; fans voted into the darkness as the worst star trek movie of them all at this year's convention

By the way, does anyone know why the parent company wishes to hold the rights the TV franchise if they have no further interest in it? I mean, I doubt we'll ever get the bluray versions of say Voyager or DS9 but a. Their bluray versions of TNG was a pretty piss poor. It was still in 4:3 HD and the sound quality was still horrible. The only thing that improved was visually but watching it in 4:3 just seemed awkward to me when I saw the demo at JB-Hi-Fi here.

The answer you seek is IP law.

There is nothing companies hate more than selling IP rights and seeing someone else succeed with it. To be honest it is one of those things I never got with Stargate, why would showtime sell the rights (even just "continuation rights") to Syfy???
