Star Trek ENT: General Discussion Thread

when does it get good?

Let's get one thing straight: I love scifi, I love Star Trek. I watched TOS when it was new for crying out loud! I've watched every series and for various reasons, my favorites remain VOY & DS9 though I love the other ones too. That said, I never could get into ENT.

I just had a hard time getting past the intro music & the Angelina Jolie lookalike vulcan who seemed more angry than emotionless. I like Scott Bakula and I liked the engineer & doctor.

I've been thinking about re-visiting the series and giving it another chance. What I want to know is, when does it get good? Is there a place where it gets better? Should I start with season 2? What say you?

Hmm... see i know alot of people enjoyed Enterprise, but i didn't. Season 4 was better IMO but by then the damage had been done.

The serialization of what should have been an epic exploration story just... ugh.

And why.. WHY didn't they get into the Romulan War!? THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN BEYOND EPIC!

Instead we get retconned aliens :|

Sorry, Ent was okay i guess, but it's no TNG to me :D Me wubs Picard, Data, and oddly enough, Ro Laren :D

The funny thing about ENT was they pulled an SGU. The fans HATED the opening music and the producer of the show said "suck it"! They also messed with the cannon of Trek and messed up the star dates and such. If you are going to make a prequel of something as closely scrutinized as Trek you better do your homework.

ENT was alright in my opinion. Not as great as TNG, DS9 or Voyager but I found it acceptable. It's a series you have to get into before you start to feel for the characters. At first I just hated the accent of that engineer (the one that plays Michael in Atlantis), but I guess I learned to live with him. Also I didn't like the parts where he was getting involved with T'pal, but that could perhaps be explained away by jealousy on my behalf. I wouldn't have wanted to miss the scenes with her in the decon-room. :) T'pal is really utterly smoking hot and is right up there with Seven of Nine. The storyline is alright but I think it could have become more if it had been allowed to remain for a few more seasons.

i actually liked enterprise, probably my 3rd favorite out of all of them, there was mistakes, yes i liked the theme tune because i felt it fit in with the time period the series it was set in, if it it was on TNG i wouldn't like it but i would like enterprise even if i didnt like the music, it was much more entertaining and more Star Trek than SGPOO is to SG1/SGA

For me, Enterprise made me feel the way Stargate Universe does, but for the Trek franchise.

When Enterprise was on the air, it made me feel the same sort of franchise betrayal as Stargate Universe does now for the Stargate franchise, but like...100 times less severe. I am a die-hard Trekkie from TOS and was watching it when it was new in 1966! So, after all the movies, ST:TNG and DS9 and Voyager, this interloper was too different from the other series for my taste. A title track with VOCALS?, and then the name of the show was just "Enterprise", and not Star Trek (something). I was part of the letter writing campaign that got the name Star Trek put back in the name. But they kept the damned song.

And then there was the Xindi...where the hell did they come from? This show was supposed to be a prequel, before Kirk's time. I understood the look of the ship and its limited capabilities in terms of technology, but they were stepping too much on canon. Not nearly as bad as whats happening on SGU, but bad enough. The Xindi came from nowhere and are unique to Enterprise. The fact that they were such an important part of earth pre-Starfleet history because they attacked earth really messed things up in the canon. Trek's canon is VERY closely monitored and its integrity kept intact. Even in the new movie, Archer is mentioned because of the canon. But that means that the Xindi have already done their attack on earth.

But, I have watched the episodes of Enterprise since SGU was on, and its actually pretty good. But I still dont like the warping of the canon. But its a good show, good characters. Nice effects and decent stories.

i am a Trekkie to ive enjoyed every series and i agree that Star trek Enterprise stepped on some toes and the Xindi story did annoy me a little, but that can be explained away, the music i understand why people didnt like the theme tune, like i said if it was any other of the shows i would hate it aswell but the time it was set and there first exploratory warp capable ship, to me made the theme tune fit

It wasnt the theme so much as the vocals.

The vocals were what was wrong, but the music itself was okay. The Xindi were created by Braga because he wanted his own personal aliens to develop, and he didnt care about the canon so much. Also, there was not enough backstory about the ship. Besides its warp speed limit, how exactly did the "hull plating" function as shields? Why did they need to be "charged"? I liked the way they made the Vulcans so restrictive and stubborn. I liked the look of the uniforms, and I loved looking at T'Pol. But the relationship with the Klingons and Romulans was not explored enough. It still remains my least favorite Trek, but I like it better than SGU!

I actually really quite liked ENT. I have been a ST fan since I was five years old (23 years) & I always wished that ST would buy a clue & sex-up a little & become a little more cool & hip so that my school friends would be into it aswell (not necessarily so that they would understand me).

It went so far but didn't go far enough in my view. It was cool, slick & sexy (different buzz words from "dark, gritty & edgey" but you get the idea)

It had T'Pol's massive tits & blowjob lips, it had the "will they-won't they" thing with Trip & T'Pol, it had the "let's go leather/rubber instead of spandex/lycra thing" & that awesome "fightie, kung-fu malarky with T'Pol's weird, Vulcan, Krav Maga thingy ma-jig".

Oh............ it also had the temporal cold war, the Xindi (just because they weren't mentioned in canon, doesn't mean they never happened) & that episode with the borg (the same thing as with the Xindi - don't have such a narrow, dogmatic vision people!).

I really enjoyed Star Trek Enterprise...one of only a few, I guess. LOL

I was pissed that they "ended" T'Pol and Trip they way they did. As I understand it, the actors felt the same way, and were LOUDLY pissed off that the final episode was turned into an episode of TNG.

I was tickled to see one of my favorite actors in not one, but TWO parts on Enterprise. Jeffrey Combs as the Ferengi whom Archer essentially befriended and helped to commit a one-Ferengi mutiny, and as Shran, the Andorian, who finally had articulated antennae. My understanding is that Combs told the producers that the only way he'd come back is if you didn't want to shove his character out an airlock.

Laughed my ass off when Shran's daughter called Archer "Pink-Skin", just like her father did. And then got pissed at the "holodeck" ending. Meh.

I enjoyed it very much as well. I wasn't fond of their "upbeat" change to the opening theme (yes, I know there were many people who didn't like vocals on a Star Trek theme, but oh well). The jazzing up, as it were, of the theme, was annoying.

I liked it much better when it was more soulful.

And there was something to be said for the clip of the cast members of TOS visiting the Space Shuttle Enterprise during those opening credits. ;)

None of which ****** me off that much........... I was just generally pleased with the show in general - I don't see what all the fuss was about personally.

One thing that bothered people was how the ship looked. But then, people seemed to forget that Cochran saw Picard's Enterprise, and that likely affected his design of the ship we saw on ST: Enterprise.

I think that there were some people who didn't like that the Vulcans weren't all logical sweetness and light on the show. It was nice to see that they weren't that way at all, with the secret base in the monastery at P'Jem (sp), and T'Pol deciding that it wasn't cool to do that, so she had no problem with exposing it.

It was also interesting that the mind-meld that had been such a big part of the older series turned out to be something that originally was frowned upon and considered to be a deviant behavior.

The show gave us a deeper look into how things really went at the beginning of what would eventually become the Federation, and I liked that.

The things you mention, I thought were the best, most original & most awesome parts of the series! I never heard anybody speak ill of those aspects in any way, shape or form.

Oh, I have.

People got so locked in the smooth shape of the classic "Enterprise" that they didn't like the much more graphically detailed Enterprise that Archer Captained. Stupid shit, really.

Though I'm not a believer in time travel myself, if you go with the idea that you'd be able to change the past, you can't make someone from that time forget what happened to them if you do and involve them in your actions.

I still prefer Enterprise's version of "Faith of the Heart" much much more than the Rod Stewart original. LOL Go figure.

Dude! ENT rocked! I don't care what these heathen ***** say, it kicked ass! **** them in their heathen asses!

I think the response is, but what do you really think? :P

I never realized there was a backlash against the show. I generally liked it. Shran was great and Connor Trinnear was where he belongs, on Star Trek.

However as I've written before at the end I thought T'Pol was a real downer moping around the set looking for something to do. And then they brought her into SG for an ep. I still don't watch that one. She should have stayed in FHM where she belonged. :icon_twisted:

In all I thought it was good, far better than Veeger or DS9 which both on occasion drove me up the frakkin wall.

Enterprise is one of my favourite Star Trek series. Ironically to me it felt "more realistic" than the others.

I wasn't that concerned with the cannon, to me that could be explained by changes being made to the timeline by those aliens who told the Xindi that Earth was going to destroy them in the future. In the "normal" timeline the Xindi might have just not been worth mentioning in the 24th century.

Would say that the 2 Terran episodes are probably my favourite episodes out of all the Star Trek series (I just love alternate universes/time travel in shows etc). Though I was a bit pissed off with how Enterprise was ended. They should at the very least of shown Archer doing the bloody speech.

I never quite got over how horrible that T'pal character was. Gratuitous shots of everything on that woman, poor acting and generally bad character.

RANT: T'pal was a useless tool to get new viewers out of the never ending stream of depraved unrealistic boys who see the ideal woman as a sex crazed sickly looking bitch with a starvation diet in a skin tight outfit having plastic boobs with no substance whatsoever. Yuck and yuck. Does anybody think that that kind of person is useful for anything beyond the obvious? Very tastless for the producers and writers to ram that down our eyeballs. But I digress.

The other aspects of the show were good, but Enterprise generally took itself too seriously.

There's a big problem with that crap these days. TV Shows that take themselves too seriously like SGU, Enterprise, BSG loose part of the essence of the classic sci-fi formula, which I won't describe here.

Nobody is FORCING writers and producers to stick with the fun , action-filled, not-too-serious sci-fi romps that can be enjoyed from week to week ...

... but these shows that take themselves too seriously have lost that 'spark' in my eyes.

In that light, Enterprise seemed quite dull and forced by comparison to more popular sci-fi shows like TOS, DS9 and SG1 .

I didn't see ENT until last year and I enjoyed the music. reminded me of some of John Lennon's music. Seeing old pics of Chuck Yeager was great and so appropriate. Bakula was muh I think someone else could have done better, he was better as Sam on Quantim Leap. T'Pol was a really bad actress, when did she play on SG? I never noticed her.
