WOW!!!!

I cant wait for this Bond movie! IMO, Daniel Craig is the most believable Bond ever in the series. Even beating out Sean Connery. The stories are great so far. But why not remake You Only Live Twice with Craig? LOVING the action. :)

I agree. Craig has been the Bond that comes the closest to how Ian Fleming wrote the character. He has that ability to be not just ruthless but stone cold that even Connery did not totally display. And the stories in the new Bond universe have indeed been better than in the past - you still have the tech but the plots are more grounded in our world.

In general, I like Craig. I liked him in the bond films, in Tomb Raider many moons ago and in Cowboys and Aliens. He also made a great film called Defiance, which is a true story of partisans in World War 2 Russia.

Craig's Bond is a reboot of the story and character. I don't think remaking any of the old stories would suit this character.

My point exactly. The firswt Bond book I read was Dr. No and Craig would have been great in that one. My favorite Bond movie is still You Only Live Twice. :) I liked Thunderball too, but you could not pull that story off in 2013 without changing it significantly. You Only Live Twice could still work.

Not all of them, but Casino Royale was finally done right. The original was a comedy with Woddy Allen and David Niven but nobody counted it as Bond when Connery showed up. Today you could not do Thunderball or From Russia With Love, but most of the others would lend themselves for a remake, IMO. :)

While we're speaking about Bond...

In recent years there’s been talks of the possibility of fans seeing a black James Bond at some point. Do you have any personal favorites that you would consider for the role?
I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris [Elba] and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer] and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy. [Laughs]
He’s also a fellow London native, as well.
That’s right. I didn’t even realize that until I started to work with him. I thought he was an American based on his role on “The Wire.” [Laughs]

When Daniel Craig eventually does retire from playing Bond, I could actually see Elba in the role, providing that he's not getting on too much in age at the time. He's a fantastic character actor and he would be more than capable of shouldering such an iconic role, as well continuing the darker and more grounded take on Bond that we've seen in the Craig films. And at least I wouldn't consider him being black a problem, considering just how many actors have portrayed the character over the years.

I would hazard to guess that the next Bond will be a "person of color". Same with the role of Dr. Who. I'm not one for political correctness for the sake of being PC, but it only stands to reason that with these characters constantly being recycled they would eventually represent more than just white guys over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Don't get me wrong, I like Daniel Craig and Matt Smith but the bottom line is that there are entire segments of the population that aren't being represented in the characters these two actors play. So, yeah, it will happen sooner rather than later at this point I believe. How that goes over with the movie/TV viewing public in terms of ticket sales and ratings is anyone's guess though. I'm sure there's a fear on the part of the producers that a lead actor of color might not draw as big as his/her white counterparts. That's the reality of it which no one wants to discuss. For me I wouldn't care as long as the actor was good.

And one thing that always bugs me about discussions like this (in a different venue) is when someone throws out that Denzel Washington should get these roles "cuz he's sooooooo good!" Like Denzel is the only black actor who could draw an audience. :icon_rolleyes: That's so lame as we all know there are plenty of minority actors that could do a great job plus, half the excitement of getting a lesser known actor into a prominent role is what makes us tune in in the first place.

This discussion reminded me of when they had two Bond movies out in the same year with different actors. There's also a remake connection in terms of story in regards to Thunderball.

Never Say Never. Perhaps the oddest Bond flick is 1983’s “Never Say Never Again,” in which hard-charging Sean Connery returned to the role he made famous in the early sixties. It was strange enough that one year would produce both a Roger Moore Bond film (“Octopussy”) as well as a Sean Connery Bond film, as if the two were competing. There was also the fact that “Never” is almost an exact duplicate of “Thunderball.” The plot is the same and many of the other details are lifted exactly from the earlier classic. To see Connery eighteen years older hustling through the same plot is like a weird funhouse trick.

I like "Never Say Never Again". To me it was "Thunderbolt done right". Connery was excellent in it, it had a healthy dose of tounge in cheek humor that was even aimed at Bond movies as a whole and Barbara Carrera was hysterical as Largo's chief lieutenant Fatima Blush.

I really can't wait for Skyfall. Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale with Craig are my two favorites so far in the entire genre. IMO Craig's the most versatile actor to have taken on the role that we've yet seen. I would be okay with a non-Caucasian playing Bond, but I'm not sure the world is yet, except possibly as a spoof...

I have loved Craig since the Lara Croft movies. He does know how to carry a scene. You can love him and hate him at same time.

He is the best Bond ever. If you have read any of the books, then you see that Craig is much closer to Ian Fleming's original Bond than even Sean Connery IMO.

FYI Quantum of Solace relies a lot on plot information from Casino Royale. In a way the two films are like Part 1 and Part 2 of a long movie.

You will LOVE it. You get the real Bond from that movie. M (Judi Dench) is great in it. She is so much more plausible and effective than the original M. Overall, this is the adult, raw Bond. I never thought any of the Bonds before or After Sean Connery could be topped, but Craig did it by a large margin. Sean's Bond almost seems camp to me now. :)

Saw it last weekend and I think it's great. By far the best of the Craig movies, and that's saying something.
