SG1 Rewatch

The Belle of the Ball
I've been getting some remodelling done (Kitchen! :D )and one thing we do whenever contractors are in the house is we suspend our cable (I pay those boys to work not watch my tv) so we are rewatching old series we have on DVDs. I recently got out my SG1 dvds (in the cool gold box with a stargate on the front :P ) and began rewatching the series. I am only to episode 8 and I had forgotten how information filled those first few episodes are. They set the tone for the entire series. The Sam techno-babble, Teal'c being so silent, Jack's quips, and Daniel's attempts at diplomacy. General Hammond is perfectly done- authoritative but not unbending.

I had forgotten what a serious Jack was like and how angry Sam seemed the first season. Overall I have fallen in love yet again with SG1. Here's to a summer of Stargate! :D:jackanime14:

Smart move with the cable! Also, you have to not be cooking. :) As far as SG-1, I know exactly what you mean about Jack and Tealc. In seasons 1 and 2, Jack was closer to the one in the movie (even though they were never really that similar). It was season 1 and 2 that hooked me too. :).

Organized group rewatches are for those freaks on Gateworld.

They can be cool if there is participation. For me, the issue is how to interact when the movie is running. How to replicate the experience of sitting with friends at a movie theater and being able to quietly comment on it and pass popcorn. The digital version of that would be awesome. :)

For some reason I'm picturing a group of unpopular middle-school kids sitting around the dilapidated living room of someone's house eating $5 Little Caesar's pizzas and drinking from two-liter bottles of generic soda as they watch TV. Of course everyone has to be out before 10:00 p.m. when Mom gets home from work cuz no one's supposed to be over when she's not there.

(Mom has been pissed ever since someone broke one of the Hummel figurines that she keeps on the knick-knack shelf above the toilet in the bathroom. Of course no one owned up to it so now she's being a super rag about the whole thing. Plus some of the cigarettes from the "weekend pack" that she keeps in the fruit bowl on top of the fridge have gone missing. She works hard all week and dammit, she deserves to have a cigarette when she and Janice go to Shooters tavern for $1.50 gin and tonics while trolling for divorced men to date. You never know, there's always a chance they could meet a Ford F150-driving Prince Charming who will raise them up and deliver them from the crap hole that their lives have become.)

my three fave recipes are my crockpot, papa john's, and a local buffet (formosa seafood & asian buffet!) ;)

I figure Janice and her would go for a pitcher of Shooters.

Ever since Janice got out of rehab she has sworn off doing shots. It's strictly beer, wine or cocktails in a proper size glass for her now. So far it's working as there have been no new DUI's on her record -- well, no reportable ones that is. ;)

This may be a cultural difference. When I say shooters, I mean a moderate strength cocktail made with mediocre vodka and lemonade and ice. Regular-sized glasses are used, but the drink is purchased a pitcher at a time because it is cheaper that way. I can drink a pitcher by myself, but won't because it is a female drink.

Did Bruce Jenner die for nothing? It's 2015 and it's perfectly acceptable to imbibe "female drinks" if one has male genitalia and/or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Shame on you! :anim_59:. I somehow figured you to be a home cooking type (mostly). Sure, I sometimes will order a pizza once every couple of months, and I still like to eat out sometimes. :) Problem here is that my favorite restaurants have all made changes to their menus to lower the cost of preparation and make more money. Stuff like using iceberg lettuce on the salad bar instead of the usual mix of arugula, romaine and red leaf lettuce. Or, shrinking portion sizes. Look at Marie Callender restaurants for a glaring example. Even Buca de Beppo has shrunk their famously huge portions (and kept the prices the same!).

But all that was to say that if you are cooking or serving dinner when workers come over, you will not get as much work out of them, and they will get very friendly with you (cause they want to be invited to dinner!).

SG-1 was awesome to me until they started adding in the earth ships, including the X301 and later fighters which we see on the large earth starships. There should have been NO earth ships. They appeared because Star Trek was going out of production. Fortunately, they were received pretty well. I think that after season 4, SG-1 became Gate Trek but I still liked it because there was no new Trek to watch. I also got tired of Jack. The addition of Cameron Mitchell and Vala was AWESOME. Now, I cannot picture them not on the SG-1 team. And of course, we know they came into SG-1 because of the ending of Farscape.

I have had a Prairie Dog which is 1/2 shot tabasco sauce and 1/2 shot tequila. I do not know what this is supposed to be:

Not sure what a "Prairie Dog" is. The shots I grew up on were "Alabama Slammers" or "Kamikazes" (vodka, triple sec and Rose's lime juice -- don't ask me how I remember that ;) ). Of course there was always some D-bag who wanted to do shots of flavored schnapps, which is just nasty. The last thing I want when I'm out partying is a belly full of mint or peach "cough syrup". :rolleye0014:

What ship is this?

You need to be more adventurous...

Try this:

1 shot Jack Daniels Old No.7
1 shot Akavit
25 Ageless Male Tablets
1 scoop of Haagen Daas Dark Chocolate Ice Cream

Put in blender and mix on Liquify for 15 seconds or until smooth. Pour into glass and drink as rapidly as possible...

yep you have me pegged- i usually am a home cooker--- but my kichen has been torn apart and that makes it pretty hard to cook. I won't get my new range in until next week. THere is only a small dorm fridge in the kitchen for milk & juice (lots of cold cearal in the am) so no cooking for another 2 weeks (they have demolished where the fridge goes) but then! :D with my increased prep space and 5 burner gas range! :D It's back to my "exclusive" recipes! Mr Rac is counting the days. He's not happy with all of the eating out. I admit I am getting very excited about my NEW kitchen - the cabinets have been sitting in the garage since friday. JUST gorgeous - cherry & glass. They are tiling this week. Travertine tiles. Yep I am excited!

as to the SG1 reWATCH - WHEN DID DON DAVIS stop BEING IN THE OPENING CREDITS? THUS FAR (HALFWAY THROUGH SEASON 2) HE';S STILL LISTED.
