Remote Power Transmission

This technologyt has always fascinated me. I have a lifelong fascination with Nikola Tesla's ideas and the man himself. It is already a known fact that electricity can be transmitted through the air. The problem is not technological, it is economic. The power companies have been buying up Tesla's patents and restricting research on "off the grid" power generation for decades.

Even in an apartment, one can put a solar array on the roof and generate enough power daily to charge a high capacity battery array like this (from Tesla Motors)

Thus, a renter like me could offset or completely eliminate the need for grid power. LED lighting and infrared heating takes next to no power in comparison to their old versions. All that would be left is the refrigerator and the oven and stove.

Saw the Samsung commercial for the first time today. The one where you place your phone on a pad to recharge. Pretty cool I thought. I think that's definitely the wave of the future.

The best technologies would only have the best impact if they were free. This is why I am such a Linux fan, why I only have internet, and why my electric grid footprint is more like only having my toes in (under $10.00/month). Having said that, the wireless electric grid needs to be free. Something that is paid for by a tax, but free to use for everyone. I think internet should be free as well. :)
