Phone advice

The wife needs a new phone, and the 2 she has to choose from are either a Microsoft Lumia 640, or a Nokia Lumia 635.

Stat wise, the 640 is better, but all she really cares about is making calls when she has to, and it being durable and easy to use.

Anyone know much about either of these?

One is an evolution of the other. they look identical. if she isnt a techie then go for the 635 because it is already awesome as the 635.

The 640 is a more powerful phone (twice the memory) and more "future proof". If those are important drivers I would go 640 as they should be pretty close in price.

Logically the 635 should be getting blown out at low low prices because it is discontinued (the 640 is its successor). The 640 is about 159 euros or $89 dollars in the states (both full purchase price no contract).

I was not aware that the 640 had a 5" screen to the 635 4.5". Just on that factor alone he should get her the 5" screen on the 640 because it is easier to read. The specs are not that much different except for the memory. His wife sounds like a "I just use the phone, I dont care about the apps or anything" person.

you would be correct
durability is the most important feature.

Then get the 640. Just because it is newer, has a bigger screen and is more advanced. It has a decent camera on it, and I have a feeling that might give her another reason for wanting it. I never realized how much I liked taking pictures until I started using that cellphone camera so much. I used to have a digital camera for that but I gave it away. Her 640 will have an 8mp camera on it

Love my Windows Phone, but waiting until they update to a new flagship here in the States before I upgrade.

Hey kids . In the same boat . Which phone would you recommend . My iCrap 4s won't work with my gopro app but my friends LG phone and Samsung tablet work fine with it ...
Am willing to spend more doh than needed just to get away from that god awful 4s and have a phone that will actually charge and be able to upload a vid or pics to the web and take good vids and pics ...
I may even post a vid of me putting my 4s in the microwave to give it that last and final super charge """

The Moto X pure edition is inexpensive, has good internals and runs pure Android:

Personally I would stick to phones that can be rooted (http://www.xda-developers.com are specialists in it) so that you can run a straight Android experience. But that is my opinion.

For the most bang for the buck, LG is an awesome phone. I have the LG G2, and Bluce has the LG G3 (last I knew).

I have an HTC 10 now, which I absolutely adore, after moving up from an HTC One A9, which I also adored.

I've been going on a gadget spree lately. I even got myself a Huawei Smartwatch and started making my own watch faces, too.

It has to do facetime as I need to be able to contact my son via video as he does not always answer his iphone 4 which by the way has never had any issues like my stupid 4s only it his can no longer handle apple updates ...

Take a look on Kijiji. You'll find some really sweet deals. Koodo is Telus, which has converted to GSM so any unlocked phone with SIM should be fine.

Do you mean here you specifically need FaceTime? And not another video app like Skype? Because if you need specifically FaceTime then you're locked into an iPhone.
