I just watched the first one...liked it. But as soon as the town comes back, with its silly characters and the pointless plot, it will be as boring as it was last season.
Just checked the game...dead in there. Less than 200 people in the whole game nationwide (worldwide?)

How do the webisodes affect the story line?
I have a big issue with shows that require viewers to watch online videos in order to understand what's happening in the show. As a benign add-on for entertainment purposes I have no problem with webisodes. But shows need to have the main story fully explained within the context of the televised show itself.

They dont really, these particular ones are backstory on Irisa and Nolan, and the idea is to get you invested in the characters (evidently). The webisodes are well written and they are good because they do not have the other dumb shit that is part of the full show.
To me, these two characters (and who they are in the story) ruin Defiance:
Datak
and Rafe Mcawley
The others can be worked with, and Datak's wife should stay in the show. She is somewhat interesting. I think they should dump all the tribal/shamanistic shit they are doing with the Erathients and dial it way back. Irisa, the alien dude with the human girlfriend...they can stay because things arent yet angsty beyond repair. Keep Nolan and the Lady Mayor.
I dunno, I think this next season is it for Defiance. They had two in the bag before it got produced, so havent we heard this tune before?

Really they should ditch the whole town and have the show focus on just Nolan and Irisa. Let's remember we've gone through an entire season and the backstory is STILL unexplained. We had to go to wikis to discover enough about the backstory for the episodes to make any sense in the first place.

I dont mind her. There is something interesting about her that I dont find in the others of her kind at Defiance. I burned the bathing scene out of my mind when I saw it.
. But still I find her interesting. Datak turns me completely off, and off of the show. With him and proud miner dude (with seekrits!) butting heads, it just sucks the life out of the show. But Datak is the singularly most irritating element of this show for me. Who he is in the show, who he associates with, the way he dresses, everything. Gatefan1976

The strange thing about Datak is that when the show started his character was actually good. They had him as the ruthless quasi mobster who was still trustworthy in a fight and did want what was best for Defiance. Then in the second half of the season they morphed him into a total jerk and a multiple murderer. They don't even know sound characters when they have them.
I never bought that premise with him. Also, all of these so called "aliens" are too human for me to suspend belief. They have boringly familiar human behaviors, motives and personalities. How did Datak get so entrenched? Why hasnt anybody killed him? I like Irisa, I like Nolan and even Lady Mayor. I like the son of Bathing Mommy and Datak, and his girlfriend. Im curious about the other alien races in Defiance (particularly the Wookie
). They are giving Datak too much story time. I think they should kill him off and fade out the heavy criminal intrigue in the show.
The reason the premise didn't sell is they abandoned it for no reason about halfway in and made him into basically a street punk. Plus, the overarching issue of no explanation of the backstory is totally unresolved. They really should have had the premiere of Defiance cover the Pale Wars, the cause for Arkfall and introduced Nolan as a soldier, had the Defiant Ones make their stand and have him find Irisa. Then have the episode where they go to Defiance.

The set is still there so I guess they will wait for the numbers and then do the ,,,tear it all down routine after . I,ll kinda miss that site if it goes but I am sure they'll fill it up with another something

Usually, in most shows that I have watched, they fit in to the plot but are not necessary to watch.
Take the BSG webisodes--in them, among other items--we find out that Gaeta is actually not just a homosexual but a bisexual
So you see-not important, just usually extra neat to know,meaningless stuff.
