"LiveScience" and other pedestrainisms

I am no "hard" scientists (physics, astronomy, etc) as you all know, however I do enjoy reading about scientific items in a novice way.

I particularly find the implications of science and new findings and the impacts they could have on our life and society very interesting.

So, since MZZZ put up a serious science discussion thread, I thought I would put up this "pedestrian" one

I find the web site-LiveScience-to be very informative to non-scientists like myself

here are a couple of posts from them:

The Navy must be close to solving the charging and power storage problem plus the emp after firing, for the gun to be mounted shipboard. Next armed satellites?

Wow, they are going to have to break out some more if those Instant War packets to create an excuse to use these things! Maybe they will equip some terrorists with them, and then claim that they went rogue and that we have to invade the country they are in? They could make a fortune equipping just a few battalions with them! Where can I buy stock?

Photonic molecules that bond together and don't pass through each other. I'd rather see a real life holodeck than stupid swords.

Wtf is the point of a light saber when you could shoot light bullets out of a gun that doesn't need reloading and doesn't leave anything behind for ballistics?

You war mongers, I swear. Why not just make giant "guns" that shoot "bullets" that destroy entire cities? :daniel_new_anime021::tealc-gun02::happy0007: :P

Anti Muslim ammo, you corrupt them with pork so they cannot enter Allah's kingdom.

I know, it is anti- all three religions listed, and probably a couple of other quasi christian groups as well.

Reminds me of the first time we went to Saudi in '90. In the small towns and villages where we would go to get ice and soda's, etc, we would give out MRE's to kids. We never stopped to consider that we were giving them stuff like "dehydrated pork chop", "pork and beans" and "ham slice;chunked and formed"

All while wearing Israeli commando boots that our wives got us at a local sports store outside of Ft Stewart.

We were really corrupting the "holy land" handing out pork products and wearing boots made in Israel and saying so in Hebrew written on the boot soles (that left great impressions in the sand in Hebrew)

True. Many people are unaware that the Kosher dietary laws are directly from the Old Testament which is the beginning of the Christian Bible. In fact Leviticus chapter 11 is a very specific set of rule concerning dietary habits and preparation and eating. But the Christians dont really observe those laws.

I am thinking it is just seventh day adventists in the christian crowd.

I only know this because we had a soldier who was one and he tried to get extra pay to eat outside of the dining facility. He always got his own box of Kosher MRE's every time we went to the field as well.

Interesting thing, here in PA, mainly down on Lancaster County, Halal and Kosher delis/stores will buy their meat from Amish butchers. The Amish method of raising and slaughtering cattle and other animals is approved Kosher/Halal by the respective "religious dudes".

I don't believe the Amish have any food restrictions though-they shouldn't, I see them stacking up their carts at Wal Mart all the time with processed foods.

Why do religions bother playing diet police?

Why do religions bother playing diet police?

I can't answer that one, It has always seemed somewhat odd to me as well.
I mean, the usual answer is because swine is considered "unclean", though why it s considered such a low animal is........ odd. Most of the time it seems to be a "philosophical/faith based" test for followers of whatever religion.

Now, git me some krispy bacon!!!!
