SyFy's dumped the show after two seasons.

That was like...the ONLY outcome which makes sense for Helix. Season 1 was passable, but the last 4 episodes of season 1 changed things significantly. The promise of Season 2 was Paris, intrigue and high-level drama with Julia heading a corporation of immortals armed with a pandemic virus plus it's cure. It could have been grand. And then Season 2 came right out of Lost, a complete switch to a completely different premise and tone. Season 1 Helix is a different show than Helix Season 2. Both were mediocre, but Season 2 was a waste. The show committed suicide.

Good riddance Helix!

Aside from this being a completely believable proposition, do you know of a statement in the press that explicitly states that Helix is canceled?

I don't think it rates that much of an announcement. The low viewership was 440,000 (ouch). But here are more links:

http://deadline.com/2015/04/helix-cancelled-syfy-season-2-1201418339/

Even the Wiki has been updated to reflect the cancellation:

"On April 29, 2015, Syfy announced that the show was canceled after two seasons.[3]"

I would always get the first minute or 2 of helix when I dvr's 12 MONKEYS

it was always so strange and bizarre--not interested in even marathoning it on netflix in the middle of a blizzard with absolutely nothing else to do

on the other hand--hoping they don't dick around with 12 MONKEYS--season one was very entertaining--and no sex shown!!!!

As we all know it's not shocking that Helix was cancelled. What is shocking is that the creators wasted such a good opportunity for interesting story telling. They had two seasons to give us something worth watching but instead we got a mish-mash of strange ideas from various genres that made no sense as a whole.

How they got from a zombie virus overtaking an arctic base to a religious cult on a remote island still doesn't make sense. (Thank you Ron Moore.) And that is why this show has been, deservedly, cancelled. :)

Lest we forget Moore is notorious for running shows that start out good then turn into dreck as they meander all over the place because he has no overarching plan for the show.

While Ron Moore did season 1 (13 episodes) of Helix, he wasn't part of season 2.
Wow, I was not aware of that! But damn, what a flipping of the switch for Season 2. Completely different show, and was derivative and shallow. There was NO WAY it could get another season, and after about episode 3 you knew that. The ratings for season 2 were not surprising.

That's interesting. Makes you wonder why he chose not to be involved. :daniel_new004:

I dumped it early in Season One and never looked back.

I dumped the show later in season 1 when it devolved into stupid mutant-family melodrama. I felt deceived, after all, the advertising implied the show was about a virus that turns people into raging zombies. They quickly dumped that storyline though which was a turn off. Not that I'm only attracted to raging zombie stories, but when I'm sold one thing but given another that's when I check out.

I watched every single episode. I was hoping that some grand over-arcing message might be happening, and in Season 1 there was enough intrigue and mystery to pull that one off. The best thread was with Julia having been raised in that Arctic base in a replica cabin under the base. How cool! And Ilaria trying to develop a virus to depopulate the earth was interesting. Then Season 2 came out and completely ruined it all. Season 1 and Season 2 of Helix are so different, in fact, that they are actually not at all the same show. Even the premise was changed. And it was strange because the same actors were in the show with their original names and they were still mentioning Ilaria and the CDC. It was like seeing an old Frankenstein movie and watching a crowd of angry villagers walking at night with a bunch of pitchforks and torches looking for the Monster, then suddenly a Prius rolls slowly through the crowd asking where the nearest ATM is. Very disconcerting.

RDM has a long term commitment issue--it is pretty clear from his lack of attachment to other things he has started--caprica, helix and some show on one of the networks

i think the longest he stuck with anything was with the ST shows, yes?

Well, Moore is currently involved in Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER (on STARZ), which is going quite well, including having the author's blessing with any changes he's wrought in the process of bringing it to the relatively tiny screen. It could be that he was already engaged to work on OUTLANDER when the second season of HELIX started filming. (The show films in Europe, rather than on the North American continent.)

Outlander has an advantage, it is based on a series of novels so as long as the author is making Starz adhere at least loosely to the books the show has its overall plan; something Moore usually neglects.

That's the impression I get, that Moore is more comfortable with a project that is clearly mapped out (by someone else).

Outlander fans would hunt him down, hang, draw and quarter him, if he screwed with things too much. Never get between a horny, fannish woman and her kilt-clad red-headed, chivalrous, selfless hero.

It never ends well.

Long cold winter so I have been watching season 1 tho I have fallen asleep mutiple times while watching it . It drives me crazy that there in the Artic and you never see cold breath's when there outside in minus 50c weather . One minute there all bundled up , then the next time they go outside there almost dressed for Toronto winter weather ... Very poor writing and premiss of being in the north . 1 minute in that cold and you will freeze and burn any bare skin exposed to that cold . Another scene is the girl cop riding her sled at night with no facial skin covered . Have you any idea how fracking cold it is moving through the cold air at night in the Arctic ? She would not go 10 ft without serious frostbite on any exposed flesh ...
Dum , dum , dum .
Started watching episode 13 but fell asleep again ... Won't bother with season 2 ...
Thanks for the reviews . Glad the show is gone ...

The show goes completely off the rails in season #2. Seriously, don't even waste your time with it. They do a completely different story that makes no sense.
