Gotham tv series focusing on then Detective Gordon. Show's going to focus on the rise of several Batman villains before the Batman came to be. It's going to have a Bruce Wayne in the aftermath of his parents' death.

This is who was casted as Gordon (Ben Mckenzie):

He's not Batman yet. Bruce Wayne lost his parents as a kid. This show is supposed to be about the interim between his parents' death and when he becomes Batman. Show's not about him that much either, mostly about Gordon and Gotham PD and the villains rise.

So, another Dawson's Creek melodrama disguised as a superhero prequel. Smells like Smallville.

Perhaps. The premise does sound workable, but WHY? Do we really need to see a series about young Bruce Wayne, Gordon and all? If Batman is not fighting them, then who will be? The fact that there is a teen Catwoman is a loud telegraph signal of shipping to come (Batman always had a thing for Catwoman and likewise). The events of Batman/Gotham only take on real excitement when Batman comes on the scene.

So, yeah there is a story here. But is it worth doing a series about it?

Smallville didn't always stink :(
Some season arcs did blow chunks however, but I always liked SV on the whole.

Let's face it, people tune in to Batman because it has weird, costumed villains, and a costumed lead character. Are we now to believe that there were scads of whacked-out, costumed villains stalking Gotham before Batman even matured? If not then Gotham becomes just another teen angst drama. Ho hum.

If they follow the SV formula, they will just be nutcases, not the costumed "supervillains" we know from comic books.

Which is to say "teen angst", or perhaps more properly, "tween angst". :stung:

Yeah, possibly a big probability, but if thy can make it work at least as well as SV I will give it a go. I mean SV had some serious teen angst crap in it (like, almost the entirety of S3) but Michael Rosenbaum played a FANTASIC younger Lex, and I did really like Tom Welling as Clark. If they can make the story work, I can forgive a lot of shite.

Maybe they can work to have Bruce age some as the show progresses a few seasons and have him go around the world picking up all the various skills and techniques he uses to be the Batman, sorta like this:

Trailer came out:
They overdid it with the Inception horns. Hard to judge based on just that. Glad they're mostly focusing on Gordon though.

I will tune in to see what they have come up with, but lets look at it...this is a story about cops in Gotham. It is only Batman-esque in style, but there is no Batman or any of the other villians. So, the story is a crime drama with a young Bruce Wayne who is a kid and has a little girlfriend. Isnt this sort of a bait and switch? Gotham is not a story, it is a locale...a big set. A big city, no doubt, but without Batman it loses context. Bruce Wayne as a kid?

Ill watch the pilot. :)
