I don't have particularly high hopes about Ghostbusters 3. I don't think anything will actually come to fruition. The movie has been "officially" on and off for years. The closest thing to there ever being Ghosbuster 3 is the video game that was released on nearly every console a few years back. Despite a few gameplay flaws, the game was a great tribute to the films. Minus Rick Moranis and Siguorney Weaver, pretty much every major character was voiced by the actor who portrayed them in the films. Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are all accounted for and in a nice touch the game developers managed to get a few additional actors to reprise minor roles like Jeanine, Walter Peck the EPA guy and even the guy who did the voice work for Vigo the Carpathian. Honestly, I'm not sure if a third movie could live up to what they did with the game really.

Ghostbusters 3, yeah! I wanna see the original actors in it. With long grey beards and stuff, kicking ghoulie @$$.

Although I read another story on Deadline.com that said Sony pictures wasn't made aware of these plans. In the execs eyes it's Murray or no movie; a plan I'm inclined to agree with. Both from a story standpoint and a financial one, he is the linchpin of the franchise.

There have been a lot of shows about ghosts lately. Or so I've heard. Perhaps this is why they're talking about doing a new Ghostbusters movie.

Wow...this thread was made in 2011, and there is just now more info? :) Here is what you need to know about the rebooted Ghostbusters:

  • The Ghostbusters are an all-female operation now.
  • The release date is July 22, 2016.
  • None of the original stars will appear in the new film.
  • There are new uniforms for the Ghostbusters
  • Chris Hemsworth will be in the movie.
No word on whether Ecto 1 will be recreated for this movie or a new hearse/Ghostmobile will be created. Nothing yet on their gear or the storyline.

Okay, the first trailer is here....um, Im not excited. :( The character parts are contrived IMO. I dunno...what do you guys think? They have created a new Ecto hearse and new gear and better effects.

It will bomb. None of these actresses are well known. When Ghostbusters was being made, EVERYONE knew who the actors in it were beforehand. They were vetted in the comedy world before the movie came out. This thing just pisses me off.

In the abstract I don't have an issue with women in the lead roles but I do get the impression that it's being done as a "Don't-you-dare-criticize-us!" gimmick. Then again, the movie is essentially fluff that really didn't need to be remade.

I think it could be great with women. But not these women, and not this story. Like you said, this one did not need to get remade. The "feel" surrounding the other movie made it good. The society at the time, the comedy in the original, and the central characters made it good. This one seems off.

Honestly I don't know if I will even bother to watch this one when it's free on cable. It just doesn't interest me.
