I am watching The Clone Wars and I am at season 3, episode 5. What I notice throughout, and especially in season 3, is that the Star Wars universe is actually very VERY lame. It is crawling with people accepting titles like king, queen, knights, Duchess, Count, etc. This is total bullshit. :) The formation of "royalty" and ruling of "kingdoms" is not an advanced social model. I notice that in the Star wars universe, slavery and servants and classism is basically the order of the day. There is nothing admirable about the way many of these plants are run, or the societies they have built.

BUT, I am thoroughly enjoying the show. :)

As a break from my Clone Wars marathon, I decided to watch the sucky prequels and follow that up with SW IV and V, but I didnt also watch Return of the Jedi. In the original movies, IV V and VI, besides the fact that there was a "Princess" Leia, I did not get the overwhelming presence of "royals" and severely divided social models found in the Star Wars universe of the Clone Wars. So far, I find season 3 to be the least enjoyable of the series so far.

I bet you are NOT kidding with that! :) The stereotypes in Star Wars are extreme...so over the top they are flooding the nearby countryside. :) Entire species of bankers? Why do all the Trade Federation look the same? A trade federation is a corporate entity, not a race...but not in the Star Wars Universe. There is even an entire Aryan planet full of nothing but blonde haired, blue eyed people. :anim_59: And Zero the Hutt speaks English, but with a southern accent, and its mother is a Hutt version of Mama Boo Boo complete with southern accent. And did they really have an entire episode on banking deregulation in the Galactic Senate? Yes, they did. Why is money being used in this universe?

I guess now I am reminded why I was always a Star Trek fan more than a Star Wars fan. Again, I am reminded that Star wars is fantasy, a re-skinned interpretation of the typical swords and shields schtick complete with palaces, royal heads of state, serfdom and slavery, greed and oppression. Not a future I would want to see. But it isnt the future...its the past only in spacesuits and with aliens and spaceships.

OMG...season 3 seems to be written as a social mirror for stuff going on at the time in the US. They mirrored the 9/11 attacks, the wars and needing to borrow money from the banking clan to finance the wars along with the Camino government becoming a pathetic, greedy clone-mill, the Republic being near bankruptcy and such...wtf? This is not entertainment. Im tempted to skip this season, or just sample the remaining episodes in it to see if they continue on this path. The stories they are telling now have veered severely from the unique stories of seasons 1 and 2. WAY too much politics and government stuff going on in season 3. Even Amidala got into the act talking about GALACTIC HEALTHCARE. Yep.

Senator Amidala in season 3, episode 11 made me puke in my mouth a little bit. Dumb stuff about having a bill being pushed forth in the Senate to help the people, dumb stuff about the war. Yaaaaawwwwwnnnnn. I hope the rest isnt like this. :(

Season 3...crap.

Yes, I quite agree. I remember watching that episode/season and was like "WTF?" Focusing on politics and trade negotiations was beyond boring. It was right about then that I stopped watching the show in earnest.

If I didnt have all of the series in a playlist, I would probably have stopped watching right about now. Somebody on the writing team decided (for season 3) that drawing from US politics and government was going to be great story material for the Galactic Senate and the Republic and Separatists. And of course, the war now sounds like Iraq and Desert Storm than anything happening in a galaxy far far away. Its ridiculously lame.

Really getting turned off by it now. But, I will continue watching for now...I think I will grind some coffee beans and brew some extra strong coffee. Perhaps put something in the oven which I have to watch periodically (to keep me from going outside to watch the grass grow).

You'd get better entertainment value watching the Plinkett reviews of the prequels. They at least are from the perspective of people actually schooled in drama and filmmaking and as a plus they rip the prequels apart.

That's exactly what I was thinking. What I don't understand though is why this clown on the writing staff wasn't reined in because it's a well known fact that no one likes the political stuff in SW. Hell, they even made fun of it on The Simpsons.

The film starts off with the opening crawl, telling the story up until the film:

It is a time of uncertainty. The empire's ambiguous tariff statutes mandate close reexamination of galactic export quotas. Interim Princess Agoomba has co-chaired a subcommittee to draft amendments to existing trade policies.
Meanwhile, regulatory agencies are being heavily lobbied by a consortium of mercantile interest groups and their suppliers to streamline loading restrictions for class-C cargo vessels. The shipping unions have remained conspicuously silent.

At the Galactic Senate, a roll call is made to make sure everyone is present. An AT-AT then crashes into the senate building and proposes an amendment to a Space Bill, but is told to wait his turn by the Galactic senator. The senator then continues the roll call.

Have you seen the Clone Wars?

I tried to watch it but it bored me to tears and I dropped off after about a season. Plus it builds on the cinematic abominations known as the prequels which gave it a bad taste too.

The storytelling in seasons 1 and 2 was outstanding. Better than the stories told in the prequels. And the Anakin of Clone Wars is WAY better than the movie Anakin teen/child/puppy/boytoy. The Amidala of Clone Wars is much better developed as a character than she was in the prequels. But now, what was enjoyable is becoming tedious because of the politics and predictable, familiar story material.

You weren't kidding? :( The space witches showed up in episode 13 which I am watching right now. These witches actually have crystal balls, say spells and they even call what they do "magic". An entire society of them. :(

The witches of Dathomir use the force, they just use it in a different way to the Jedi.

Semantics. They're still labeled as witches, which makes the entire story nothing but a medieval fairytale in space. :D

Dude, all that was missing was the phrase "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble". :) They were straight up witches, mkay?

They have freakin crystal balls, and the top witch even conjured up a refreshing drink out of thin air for Count Dooku. They should have named her Endora.
