Deadpool movie gets a green light

I'm not a comic book geek but if I was I'd probably be into Deadpool. From what I understand the character is morally ambiguous and complicated, which could be rather interesting to examine. Plus he's supposed to be snarky and funny.

At any rate, a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds (he of the lousy Green Lantern flick) has gotten the green light from Fox. It will be released in February of 2016.

Deadpool hits theaters in February 2016. Here's the official synopsis: "Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life."

I think this has been posted here before, but just in case it was one of my other haunts:

I'm not feeling this character. I guess I would say he's too wise-acre to be credible.

Granted, Rocket Raccoon is also wise-acre but in his case it works better.

I was under the impression the character got killed off in the Wolverine movie. (Did they hint he might still be alive at the end? :daniel_new004:)

I also was under the impression that (in the comic books) the character was severely deformed under his costume.

I wonder how they're going to address all these issues in the movie?

Rocket is an in character wise arse, Deadpool is a 4th wall breaking wise arse, they are most definitely different.
It will have limited appeal, but it is a nice thing to do for fans.

Wolverine sliced off his head in the Wolverine X Men Origins film and yes he was severely deformed. So I am guessing they are just going to ignore that movie.

I don't believe they ever called him deadpool though.........

I guess in the comics he's able to regenerate quickly. He can even survive decapitation, but the head has to be brought back to the body or something like that. It's been awhile since I saw the film but I thought they did a teaser during the credits that hinted at Deadpool coming back.

Oh great! Now one of us has to sit through that lousy flick again to get the answer. :icon_lol:

Better to just read the wiki on it:

Wade Wilson is one of the antagonists of the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds.[89] He is a highly skilled, wisecracking but greatly amoral mercenary who wields a pair of katanas with superhuman speed and skill sufficient to deflect fully automatic weapons fire. He is supposedly killed by Victor Creed, but is later revealed to have been transformed by Colonel William Stryker into mutant killer "Weapon XI" (stunts performed by Scott Adkins) who possesses other mutants' powers, including Scott Summers' optic blasts, John Wraith's teleportation, Wolverine's healing factor, and a pair of extendable blades resembling Wilson's prized swords; Stryker is able to completely control him thanks to Chris Bradley's technopathy. He is referred to by Stryker as the 'Deadpool' because the compatible powers of the other mutants have been 'pooled' together into one being. Wolverine and Victor fight Deadpool in the film's climax and manage to defeat him by decapitating him and sending him falling into a cooling tower of a nuclear power plant, although a post-credits scene appearing in DVD releases and some theatrical presentations of the film implies Deadpool is still alive.[90]

Sorry, I'm not torturing myself with that film again. It was like a microcosm of everything that went wrong with the X-Men franchise after X-Men 2.

Personally I don't get the fascination with Wolverine and/or Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the character. I find both the character and the actor to be tediously boring at this point.

I am unfamiliar with this character, but he sounds like an amalgam of Spiderman, Captain America and Batman. :)

A guy who worked in a comic book store told me about him a couple years ago. The character kind of has a cult following. The fact that he's morally ambiguous and a wise ass to boot makes him unlikable to some people, but appealing to others. I haven't read any of the comics featuring him to be honest.

BTW, Ryan Reynolds pretty much always plays a snarky but lovable A-hole so this role won't be too much of a stretch for him. I'll hold off judging it until I see it of course. And I admit, guiltily, that I liked the katana action he did in the Wolverine movie. Some might have thought using swords against bullets was dumb but I found it cool.

Well, the Deadpool movie is out and it's doing great business and getting good reviews. Has anyone seen it yet? It's rated R and is more crude than your standard superhero movie from what I've read. It's supposed to be funny as hell though. Just FYI.

Everyone I have talked to who has seen this says that they loved it. :) They are saying it is in a unique niche that nobody else has touched, and they almost universally love the humor and the risque style of the film.

I'll think about seeing it. I never was a big Deadpool fan (always more of stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Etrigan et al).

Don't know if it matters but it's rated R and is supposed to be rather crude in spots. Much more so than other superhero movies. In fact, "Wade" is depicted having sex rather graphically I've heard.
