Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - INCREDIBLE!

Okay, I just saw this. OMG, the movie is absolutely incredible. I can't talk too much about it without spoiling it, but let's say that just about every minute of this movie is used to effect. No filler, and the character development in this movie is far and away it's strongest element. When you factor in the ape characters and the ape community, you forget that this is CGI. You think you are seeing talking apes, riding horseback, shooting guns, showing love to other apes, etc. Your mind just registers "ape". These apes are not the glib, refined talking apes we have seen in previous PotA movies, these apes communicate in a decidedly un-human fashion.

Oh wow, I would pay to see this again in 3D. Easily Best Picture material here folks. This is one of the best written, best acted, most integrated movies (with regard to CGI and action and cinematography) that I have seen in more than 10 years. The next one should be even more spectacular. These movies are not about CGI and pew pew. These are thinking movies, which happen to have some of the most convincing special effects ever seen on film to date.

INCREDIBLE. No other word quite says it. :)

I could use an equivocation. I'm using that correctly, right? Like going away for a short period to a Caribbean island to get away from work.

Eeeeewwwwwww. :sulkiness: :P. Seriously though, this one is worth actual money. Even 3D money. Its really that good. Far beyond the abilities of hacks like Abrams, Michael bay and even Ronald Moore or Joss Whedon. If Cecil B DeMille were still alive, he would have been very impressed. To me, this story is even more compelling than Lord of the Rings or The Matrix. And considering where they started the story, it could yield at least 6 movies (2 down, 4 to go!). There is the unresolved story of the lost astronauts on the way to Mars, the global human population is almost gone, but they have not used the nukes so there is that story, and Caesar's son has taken up the charge of Caesar's cause. He also now has a little brother.

This movie is still #1 at the box office, beating out The Purge: Anarchy, and Sex Tape and a new animated kid's film. The critics are still gushing about it, and the word of mouth is not only increasing the draw to it, but also to the 2011 movie which did very well. The next Planet of the Apes movie is already greenlighted. :) MUST SEE.

It needs about another 80 million or so to be at profitability and at its current box-office track it will need foreign dollars to get there. I guess the big question there will be if it is getting a run in Asia or not. BoxOfficeMojo does not have release dates for it in either China or Japan. I think the sequel was green lit on the basis of the rave reviews and the huge need of the studio for established properties to extend.

It is ahead of it's predesessor over the same timeline, which should being the global gross to a higher figure than Rise. The potential with this franchise is it's cult-forming edge. These are intelligent, timeless films. They are not flash in the pan niche films like Transformers or even the Avengers. Avatar has that cult-forming potential as well, even though I dont really care for the story. These Apes movies are paying for themselves like the Trek franchise did for so long.
