Comcast On Demand - a VERY nice fringe benefit

Recently I ditched U-Verse because the monthly cost was too high for the internet speed they were delivering. I now have Comcast Xfinity Pro Internet. The best price included a cable TV package so I got that too, and have triple the speed for a much lower price.

Because of the cable package I also have their On Demand service. On a whim I poked into just the free movies section and found a LOT of stuff that surprised me. Demolition Man was only one - they also have more recent stuff like Edge of Tomorrow in the free section and rarer films like Dark City as well. Very nice piece of added value! I've already identified several films whose presence surprised me in this free section.

Question...did you renew your Amazon Prime after the price jumped up? I didnt. :) I currently have Time Warner Internet at 50mbps (very happy with that). But I declined phone and TV, even though the package which includes them is slightly cheaper than what I have right now.

I ship often enough that it was well worth it.

As to performance I am pretty steadily getting 60-63 Mbps. I could have gone higher (to 100 Mbps) but the question starts to be "why"?

I totally get that. :) I had the higher package, but it was double the price of the 50mb package and there is NO lag whatsoever even with 5 computers running at once, plus my phone. :) I usually have Netflix streaming, and sometimes am also playing a game and there is no lag.

Here in Canada we have Crave TV . I'm at my friends place taken care of her dogies and she has the Bell package with Crave TV . Also has a movie section , some free and some for rent .
Free was Edge Of Tomorrow which I just watched ...
WOW ... What an excellent movie ... Very surprised indeed ... A very must watch movie even if Tom Screwsloose is starring in it . 2 movies I like him in now . Oblivion was the other one and it was good too ...

:) :) :)

I too don't care for Tom Screwloose but EoT was a good flick. So was Oblivion. You'll never get me to sit through a Mission Impossible movie but TC's scifi-ish stuff is worth a viewing (War or the Worlds not included though ;) ).

His scifi picker is very very good. From Minority Report to Oblivion and his others, like EoT have been winners to me. :)

I thought War of the Worlds was a clunker, especially the aliens that were buried in the ground for a million years. Plus the whiny daughter was annoying as hell. If I found myself stuck in an alien apocalypse with a brat like that it wouldn't be long before I'd be flagging the aliens down and pointing out her hiding spot. :stung:

War of the Worlds was indeed a clunker. I could not get into the neurotic/precocious/whiney daughter and the angsty/sensitive/emo son and his daddy issues. Maybe the reason the aliens wanted to destroy the earth is because they had been watching this crap for so long?

Um...the Mission Impossible films were very up and down.

The first one was actually decent, mostly because the plot unfolded at a good speed and the reveals were not totally out of the blue. The second one was dreck, and felt more like a motocross ad than a spy film. The third one was wildly uneven but ultimately fell short. The fourth one (Ghost Protocol) was pretty good actually - Brad Bird gave it an underlying layer of sarcastic humor that worked perfectly.

welcome to comcast Joe! the on demand is very nice. Never have to worry if I forget a show- poof it's on demand the next day! ;) of course the DVR is nice too! :D I have a number of friends that have ditched cable for netflix or amazon prime, but I'm happy with comcast ....for now! ;) and nope not interested in U-verse. Did you find that storms really interfered with your U-verse? many of my neighbors had it until they got tired of storm interference. living in the midwest that is a 6 month problem.
