Castle "The Final Frontier" Episode 11-5-2012

Massive geek-out episode, and the Browncoats of the world will be laughing themselves silly (as well some Trek fans, as Armin Shimerman ("Quark" from Deep Space Nine) is in it) and Jonathan Frakes directed it.

Laughed my ass off through a very large part of it.

SO many Firefly references, blatant and implied. <grin>

Saw it. I love how it was about a scifi show that only lasted one season but had a rabid fan following all these years later. :ronnon_whistling::D

I bet that's how it's gonna be with SGU a decade from now.

By the way, saw this ep and loved it. Kate was so cruel to Castle in the end.

This ep had some many cute little Easter eggs in it for the fans. One of my fav Castle's to this day.

God only know which character you'll dress up as at the SGU fan conventions. Let me just tell you right now that you don't have the body to play "Chloe". Those "girl scout" hips are long gone my friend and they ain't coming back. :icon_neutral:

I'm still laughing at all the inside stuff.

"Creavers" instead of Reavers was SO obvious.

And ya, Kate showing up at the end with the Creaver head on and chasing Castle out of the room...hilarious. LOL

I was had to watch it again to hear that little mention of the comment about "that Joss Whedon show". LOL.
The Kid and I laughed SO hard at that part...and then backed it up to watch it again.

The way that just tripped off his tongue was like the sweetest honey, you know?

Yes, and he just slid right into bashing the "other show" lol.

Castle is one of my favorite non sci-fi shows, and this episode was great. Regarding Kate Creaver mask at the end, that wasn't cruel, that was just totally in character for her, in her relationship with Castle.

On a related note.
Back in the 80's, there was another ABC romantic comedy called "Moonlighting", starring Bruce Willis & Cybil Shepard. It ran for 5 years, but it had it's problems; writers' strikes, star injuries, etc. This resulted in a very large number of repeats as they couldn't produce new content, which drove ratings into the tank.

In a desperation move, once production resumed, the writers eventually got Maddie & David to "do the deed". This took the sexual tension out of the show, and since that was the main attraction, sealed its fate. The show floundered a while after that, but eventually was cancelled.

This season, Castle has seen Kate & Castle tie the knot. Does anyone else see the same thing happening here? With the "will they or won't they" component removed, to me, the show seems to have lost something.

Will it go the way of Moonlighting?

The creator has said that the show was always a romance and that they would eventually get together. Unlike Moonlighting, however, they waited until season 7 before the main characters got married.

Shepherd and Willis didn't like one another to begin with, so that also affected what chemistry they might have had onscreen, and both apparently behaved like divas on set. That doesn't help when you're making a tv show about a couple.

Fortunately, Fillion and Katic have very good chemistry together, and the diva-like garbage doesn't seem to go on with that show.

So far, I'm still liking the show a lot, even though they've finally tied the knot. :-)

Personally I don't think the coupling will hurt the show. I, for one, can't stand the frustration of star crossed characters long term, so for me it's good that Kate and Castle made it official. They can still be an interesting team, plus there will always be opportunities for contention (that gets resolved) between them. As it is I'm liking the fact that they're married now and found the "dude ranch" honeymoon episode quite funny.

IIRC, the person most resistant to the idea was Nathan himself, and I think he even quoted moonlighting as an example of what can happen when the sexual tension gets resolved in a show.
I also believe this will be the last season of Castle anyway :(

You need to remember that Firefly's fanbase is pretty large, it had a feature film made (which was really bizarrely advertised but it is still a good film) and even today it has books, comics, games and other media set in its universe and working with the characters.

SyFy for example could have just revived Firefly and had a far better rated show than the crud they have been inflicting on audiences.

They've come up with something as of the midseason break that will keep things interesting, so that's good.

I rather doubt that this will be the last season for it. But they are starting to flounder for show ideas, this
being banned from working on NYPD cases bit is an example; they're stretching for this. I think it will resolve in an ep. or two.
.
But there is definitely a changed feel to the show this year.

Seven seasons in, I'd be surprised if there wasn't, really.

I'm glad that it's growing up. Real life people and situations change. Good to see that on Castle as well.
