I was just wondering if any of you folks have ever read or watched this series:

It's a great series, especially the books, so if you like a more medieval tale, without the need for sex and swearing every scene, I really recommend it.

I've heard of the books a long time ago but never got around to reading them. I've been turned off to historical murder mystery fiction for awhile now after trying to read a Lyndsey Davis novel once. It was God awful. It read like Mickey Spillane meets Augustus Caesar. I felt the whole thing was inauthentic and was just a cheap, 20th Century dime store detective novel with a historical facade tacked onto it. After that I've avoided any story that purports to be along those lines for fear of having my delicate sensibilities shaken once again.

But Cadfael does look interesting and the excerpts seem well written so I would definitely give Ellis Peters a chance. :encouragement:

I've seen the series with Derek Jacobi and loved it.

Sean Pertwee played Hugh Beringar in the first couple episodes.

I thought there was a TV version of it but wasn't sure and didn't get around to searching for it. The excerpt I read from the first book looks really good. The author writes some good prose.

I had to laugh when reading one of the few bad Amazon reviews where this person complained that the authors prose was too dense and challenging for them. Hell, that's what appealed to me in the couple pages I read. :icon_lol:

I bought my Ma the 2 series of Cadfael for mothers day about 2 years ago, it's not a bad show either, but as usual, you get more out of the books :)
