Bypassing geolocation and browser privacy without a VPN

I was looking at methods of bypassing geolocked content without the use of an OS level VPN and I came across browser plugins that create VPNs between your browser session and the remote end.

ZenMate uses superior technology to fully encrypt all traffic on your browser and mobile device. Your IP is hidden, your internet unrestricted and your privacy protected. We are using tested industrial strength encryption standards which we are delivering through our unique lightweight plugin, with no configuration needed at all.

ZenMate creates a tunnel similar to a virtual private network (VPN) between your device and our Internet gateway. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers, hackers, governments and ISP‘s from spying on your web browsing activities, downloads, credit card information or anything else you send over the network via your browser or mobile device.

I've tested this plugin on Chrome, Chromium (the one that's not polluted) and Firefox.

The VPN tunnel created by the plugin does not hijack your entire OS but, rather, only redirects your browser session through it, which includes flash content. This is much lighter than a full VPN and can be turned on and off right from the browser.

Zenmate is free but there are others, such as MediaHint. This plugin would allow our friends outside the US to watch all US geolocked content.

I just installed this. :) How do I get it to play BBC? For some reason, it asks for a Flash plugin (which is already installed). Missing something?

lol it's not total anonymous. They ask you to create an account :P. Not to mention reading the reviews it seems a few forums have "blocked" the IP addresses because they are used as spamming ones. Plus, I don't see how they would provide anything for free without getting anything in return. It just doesn't make sense.

It's not about anonymous. It's about appearing elsewhere to get around geolocked content. :D

Free is the account with limited usage unless you're among the first to get an account then your sessions are unlimited and free.

Which browser are you using? I'm not sure they have any servers in the UK.

Chromium. I installed the plugin, but when I go to BBC it asks for a Flash plugin. Flash is showing already installed.

After spending some time using Private Internet Access I can say now that it does not work . I can clearly see my ISP main server which is in another province and all test redirect right back to my ISP and not to the VPN ...There's $40 wasted ...
What it does give me is access to different Neflix in different countries or restricted access to other streaming such as in England or Japan and no browsing privacy to speak of ...
:( :( :(

Couldn't get Zenmate free to work with Chromium. It works on Firefox but some sites are blocked for some annoying reason. And if I use the options to change servers I have to go with either Germany or China and then it automatically changes the language on my browser which is annoying as hell. But it's free so I guess I can't complain.

You can set your browser's language. This has been superseded by Hola:

Much better, IMO.

Zenmate will not allow me to connect to the UK. The only connection I really want is one that allows me access to the BBC. Are there any free ones?

Get "Hola", dude, the extension I linked. That's what I use.

This is just so awesome to have. I have paid for Secure Line from Avast, used fly-by-night VPN IPs, used trial services...all are cheesy hacks unworthy of me. But this, this is the shiznit. Full VPN and HD streaming of my favorite BBC shows, and just about any show in any country? And FREE????

NOTES:

In Chrome for Linux, this extension will auto-activate unless you switch it off. If you leave it on, you become a peer in the VPN network and your internet performance will suffer a bit.

The little spikey head guy is the Hola icon. Turn OFF when not using.

I feel like I just got my membership to the country club. :) The BBC programming is so much more refined than fluffy, superficial American TV with it's dumb commercials and vapid characters. I was always a fan, but until now it was not easy to get regular access. THANK YOU BLUCE!

I use Cyber Ghost, is this any different? I abhor Geo-location crap. This is worst violation of my privacy ever. I can't even get to bloody Google us without a vpn. I use the free version of CG but I was thinking about upgrading to the paid unlimited one. My free CG will bump me off every 3 hours for an hour.

Overmind, if you get a chance, watch Sherlock from BBC.
