Anybody checked out Syfy's "new forums"?

Damn, they really dried it out. :( It no longer looks or feels the same. It's like they optimized it for mobile and tablet, but for Syfy Forums that is a dumb move. People are definitely checking out forums on their mobile devices, but it isn’t Syfy forums. Why would anybody check out Syfy Forums on their mobiles during the day? Enough to warrant making the main full site look crappy?

This design is old isn't it? It's been like this for a while. I think well before SGU got cancelled.

I thought it was different. The new ones look "flat", and the Forums Home page looks different to me too. Perhaps because I am now using only Firefox? It seems like the design has been stripped of some stuff. I just went there on a lark, I hadnt been there in at least two or three years.

Yeah I maybe pop into the SyFy forums like once a year but quickly leave. The forums are very boring and there's no real discourse going on there. And now popping in per your link I see that they still have forums for shows that tanked and no one is watching in reruns. I mean really, Caprica gets its own forum??? You'd think they would be so embarrassed by that turd that they would deny all connection to it.

OMG, I just noticed they don't have a forum for Dominion, and their DEFIANCE forum is a ghost town. :icon_lol:

Defiance was the reason I popped in there. :) I wanted to see if there were cheerleaders squeeing about the show, and what they were saying. But nothing but tumbleweeds and crickets. :zelenkaanime17: :) Funny about there being no Dominion forum!:shep_lol:

With the unexpected canceling of Atlantis, the majority of people left, then the stragglers, fans of NuBSG and Caprica left after their favorite turd was flushed.

This place has been an urban wasteland too and hasn't changed at all. If you attack the show, you are mocked at by the same people defending SGU....

GateWorld is another forum that I have forgotten even exists. It's not surprising it's a wasteland because they are way too restrictive in terms of what they allow to be posted. They actually have new members on moderation for every single post until they reach some magical number. It's downright ridiculous that's why I, like tons of others, gave up on them ages ago.

Syfy and GW pretty much identical and don't allow any negativity. They see it as "trolling". The fact that it has only gotten 2 pages shows the the place is just hanging by a thread.Whatever happened to Briangate anyway?

I think that's because to curb on spammers. We do that too, but the platform we use on the computer enthusiast site I moderate, sucks ass.

I wonder if Briangate still works there? They did some downsizing (not surprising). The anchor for the Syfy Forums was it's popular Friday Night science fiction lineup. Now, there is basically no science fiction left on Syfy...nothing of note. Gateworld is frozen in time because their Stargate is never coming back. It was our Stargate too, but Im looking forward to the new ones.

How come he deserted this forum?

Wait on the cancellation of defiance. Watch the hate messages flood in.

We said a lot of stuff bad about Syfy shows, and he was using his Syfy forum name here. :( He stopped posting at every forum except Syfy, and stopped there too which is why I am not sure he still works there.

I got the impression that he wasn't long for that place last we heard from him. He didn't seem happy there. That coupled with the fact that SyFy is being super cheap with everything these days probably means that they slashed the budget for people to "work" in the media areas and no doubt he's long gone. Just one look at those lame forums at SyFy proves that they really don't have anyone working on them in any significant capacity. Like I pointed out earlier, they don't even have a Dominion forum, which is another sign that SyFy has given up on maintaining the forums.

Quite simply, SyFy is a cheap piece of crap network. It's obvious from their crappy shows to their lousy media interface with fans and viewers. Their logo should be a bag of dicks, for obvious reasons.

Moderators on most forums, don't get paid any money or get any form of reimbursement.

Right, but from what I recall -- and this is just from memory -- I thought he had some sort of working relationship with SyFy. For all I know he might have worked for a company that managed online media for corporate clients. (There are companies that do that, handle the online presence for companies that don't want to do the work in house.) Again, I may be way off here but the impression I got of Briangate was that he was working for the SyFy site in some capacity.

Then again, if he was just a dedicated fan then it wouldn't be surprising that he left. He probably got fed up with being unpaid and unappreciated over at SyFy and split. It would be cool of him to pop in and give us the scoop on things over there though. I bet he's got some good stories.

Briangate DID work for Syfy, and his capacity was not those forums. He told me he was inside the company but did not specify in what capacity or position. His superiors were aware of his forums participation at Syfy and elsewhere (Gateworld). if he was subject to web content filtering/monitoring, that indicates some sort of departmental worker. That he could do it during working hours could indicate a management position or other non-supervised capacity. But I do not see him on Syfy or Gateworld. I dont know anybody at Syfy or Disney. :(

I wish he was around so he could tell us what is going on there. Those forums are a ghost town and nothing has been updated in ages. That tells me that SyFy no longer considers them important. Maybe they didn't like the fact that people used the forums to, legitimately, complain about the crap that they offer. That could be why they switched to doing stupid Twitter announcements as the mechanism for getting negative feedback is a lot lower that way. Looks like SyFy is sticking fingers in its ears and shoving its head in the sand and doubling down on a schedule full of crap.

The last I remember of Briangate, he was telling how scifi forums were the bastion of free speech and not like GW. Then here I come with screen shots and other evidence of how he and other mods were doing the exact same as GW, and poof he was gone. He also came to the defense on here of a syfy mod who was stalking and making threats to me(standard troll behavior), his excuse for defending her, she thought I was someone else.

I believe he left because he knew he couldn't delete my posts like in syfy forums, plus knew I would call out any lie he tried to pass on here.

Wow that's crazy! :icon_e_surprised:

All I can wonder is why would a mod ever give you a hard time? Of course I believe your story, but I'm just trying to wrap my head around how mentally warped this chick must have been to go after you of all people. After all, you're not a rabble rouser. What did you do to flip her mental illness trigger?
