Star Trek Discovery SUCKS.

THIS! Finally a well narrated video on paid shilling and "internet marketing". :) The sad part is not their existence, the sad part is the people out there who are too dull to spot it. And it isn't just in TV and entertainment. It's politics, products, cars, clothes, tech, phones, etc.
Tech? In some aspects yes, but to say that all tech is paid is quite judgemental. You use your own discretion
The Reddit forum is filled with paid shills. It's kind of sad how legit posters think they're debating the merits of this show with genuine fans when in truth they're interacting with a bunch of paid corporate drones that don't give a shit about the subject matter. And anyone who thinks CBS All Access/Netflix isn't using a shill service (or several) to try and fix public perception of STD is a fool. People are ripping this turd apart and it's a given that they're trying to counter act that fact.

Here's how it works:

It's also down to people not giving a fuck and posting it with an alias. People can post under a fake identity.
Well holy crap that reddit are pretty nasty scum bags .
CBS must be paying tons of cash to these guys ,,,

:daniel01:
It's the internet. People can say what they want but they'll do a 180 in real life. Anyway, real life shills

I don't do facebook links unfortunately. But that brings up an interesting point I wanted to make: Facebook vs. Reddit for shilling this show. It seems like it would be easier for people to SPAM Reddit because it's basically a clearinghouse for forum topics whereas Facebook is more individualized per page. Plus you don't have to be a member of Reddit to read the topics whereas Facebook almost always requires one to be a member to read stuff.

You can still read the comment section if you don't register yourself and click not now when that annoying registeration popup appears. That's how I do it lol. Then, click on the comment section to lurk and read the garbage posts or...you can create it under a fake profile tehehehe...

I am not saying "all" this is shilling at all. What I am saying is that all companies use shills. In a literal sense, all advertising agencies are shills. I think my shill detection sensors are more effective since I became a cord cutter (to eliminate advertising, not cost necessarily). My aversion to advertising in my entertainment is extreme. Seriously. :) Because I generally have no advertising in my entertainment or internet experience, when I see it in comments and inserted into reviews or news articles, I can easily detect it.

True, but who would gain anything by shilling for something like Discovery other than a paycheck? Why would Average Joe decide to create a fake identity to shill for Discovery? Doesn't make much sense to me. Shilling for tech usually means free samples/units. Shilling for clothes and other tangibles, same thing. What would a Discovery shill get? Other than "coffee money", I don't see any viable reward. Maybe they get all 15 episodes in a DVD? Wow, sign me up. :smiley-015:

Facebook? :) I'm just like old Luke Skywalker out there in my cave. I am not going to wander around Facebook, or Snapchat, or Instagram or Twitter. I do not have anything I need to check on any site while walking down the street staring into my phone. This will never be me.

Why do you say that? Because Imgur does not auto-embed? I can easily fix that...

Yeah, I'm not a social media type person either. And I have to wonder just how effective spamming sites like Reddit and Facebook actually are? Are there really people out there who read an obviously fake review of Dysentery on a forum and believe it enough to sign up for CBS All Access? I'm just not buying that that strategy is all that effective.

No, it's down to incompatibility. I just don't like this platform, period. I was never a fan of it when a lot of the sites started migrating to this platform because it was 'better' than vbulletin but there are many other platforms out there that are better . It's slow and clunky.

By comparison, here is netflix's subscription which are on their annual reports. Good fucking lord do they make a lot of money from it :| but all the cash gets burnt by keeping the lights on through operations.

Facebook/instantgram and google makes companies billions of dollars through advertisement.

Obvious advertising yes, but I'm wondering about stealth advertising done via fake Reddit or Facebook accounts. I just don't know how effective that is. It might have a slight impact in conjunction with promotional advertising initially but I think once word gets out on how bad something is no amount of shill accounts on Reddit are going to change people's minds.

This is somewhat useful, as I have not updated it for a while. :) I disagree about vBulletin, and I still have a license for it. I have two licenses for Xenforo and one is being used here, one at Flamehell. I am not even using vBulletin.

Vbulletin is broken which is why many migrated to other platforms. There have been many forums that got hacked due to using Vbulletin.

YES, this. My old KOBE forum was hacked multiple times with vBulletin. And the spam scripting became widely spread and hard to remove. Xenforo is way better in that regard. But this place is not performing as well as it could because of modding.

You need to activate the spores to take full advantage of Xenforo. ;)

Can you remove discovery news all together and just put that it sucks? I much rather see the Orville which does not post a grim image on the human race. Unlike the old farts of this world, I want the human race to succeed.

No, I won't do that. Why would we censor the forum for no reason? Removing politics, religion and that stuff was a great improvement. Censoring topics because they trigger somebody is not a good reason. Discovery is a new show, and is science fiction-esque (according to the producers :). The solution is not to remove the Discovery thread, just ignore it and watch The Orville. That is what I am doing. I am posting on the Discovery thread but I have only seen 2.5 episodes.
