Looks like a merge of Transformers with Power Rangers.

Bleh - I'll pass. It just looks like all it has is nothing but mindless explosions and more explosions and look more explosions. As if the world isn't violent enough.. BORING!

I was disappointed with the Trailer precisely because it looks kind of animated. One of the nice things about the original film was the Jaeger's looked massive and moved like massive objects. These are too quick and shifty.

Ok, so Finn is now in it from Star Wars, and they have added a DUMB ASS RAP soundtrack to it? It now reminds me of the Transformers (hood edition). My shields went up watching that trailer, but I will give it a chance.

Actually, I am so happy we got the greenlight turned back on after the original project got greenlit, then canceled, then lit again. :) The Boyega character is evidently Pentacost's son, which is oddly fitting for this. I like the fact that Mako and the other guy are not the center of the film. I really am not liking what I saw of the Jaegers. They seem like entities to themselves, and when you see them move you do not get any sense that they are being piloted by two humans. It looks almost Power Rangers in tone. I'm really not liking the music they played. It sounds like hard ghetto rap being barked out by some hardcore gangsta. If that is the style of music they want to use as the backdrop instead of the far more "epic" sounding soundtrack they used for Pacific Rim, it will be hard for me to enjoy.

Saw a preview last night . I also thought it was a mix of power rangers and transformers thrown together . Yuck .

Hopefully the production team gets the feedback and changes the Jaeger movements back to how Del Toro deliberately did them - they were done in the first film to make it always clear you were looking at a giant vehicle.

I was just thinking of our reactions to the trailers for this, and I think the big reasons it is not as engaging so far are:

a) The scale is off - the first film did a magnificent job of making the Jaegers and Kaiju look gigantic and massive. In the trailer they look like Power Rangers.

b) Everything moves too slickly and quickly - as a result you lose the feeling of massiveness the slightly slowed down movement in the first one provided. It also removes a sense of power from both Kaiju and Jaeger - they feel like guys in suits.

c) Inappropriate musical score. Again it ruins any attempt and setting a proper tone.

This video is insightful not only on this film but others.

What a great video! Thoughtful commentary, and not much bias at all (none, really). He is calling out everything I see wrong in the trailers. The problem is the production value, and that includes direction. The person who is doing this is not putting himself inside these massive machines, he just wants them to look cool like the Transformers robots. They lose the Pacific Rim feel. But, I will still be seeing this when it comes out. :)
