The title has been announced by Lucasfilm:

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

Word has it that the beginning of the new film is the very moment Rey gives Luke's lightsaber to him on that mountain. Not sure if the movie is going to center around Luke, but no doubt he has a large part in it (hopefully).

Post all new rumors here (after vetting them first!).

you mean STAR WARS VIII? :)

Just delete my star wars viii thread then, why have two threads on the same film?

(I made a thread for every upcoming SW's movie already)

I didn't see that! I will merge them.

It's just a teaser - not even a full trailer so I fully expected the lack of any details.

I rather enjoyed Rogue One. It looked and felt like Star Wars. For me, more so than The Force Awakens. I think this one might also be good. :)

I am not expecting it to be as good as ROGUE ONE. I think it will be better then ep 7-which wasn't bad, but did have some irritating moments like the fast friends situation between Finn and Poe Dameron

also, just how easy it was-almost like pathological, the ease with which Finn begins to kill the only 'family' he has ever known-starting with blasting to hell the ppl in the TIE launch bay

besides those twp characters, it was good and i am hoping 8 will be progressively better then 7

I liked the look a LOT. But I found myself saying "Oh no. Noooo!" a lot.

  • The yelling bird sitting next to Chewbacca
  • Phasma
  • Kylo Ren
  • BB8 replacing R2D2
  • Snope (bwahahahaha)
Otherwise, it looks great and obviously changes some canon. Why is there a Last Jedi? How about a revival of them? I'm still wanting to see this. :)

I'm not a fan of Kylo Ren. He's not scary or intimidating. He's just lame. I feel the same about Snope at this point because we've only seen him as a cartoon character so far, plus we don't know anything about his history or why he's such a bad guy. He is a nonentity at this point.

As for the "Last Jedi" thing, I think that's just a reference to Luke. I suspect while he trains Rey in the use of the force he will probably get rid of all the strict Jedi rules hence the description of him being the last Jedi. I could be wrong of course.

Kylo Ren is not supposed to be scary or intimidating. He is not Vader but rather a Vader wannabe and the first movie clearly showed that. He lacks control and is immature and that was how Adam Driver was supposed to portray him. I though Adam Driver did well in the role and to me it was the surprise of the first film as I expected him to be awful in it.

You're not wrong, but... There was no tangible bad guy in VII. Snope didn't get enough screen time to give a real sense of malevolence. So basically we were left with a whiny wet noodle in the terrifying role Vader occupied previously. That's kind of sad if you think about it. And chances are we're going to be treated to more of Ren's angst and mommy issues in VIII. Yay. :moody:

I know there was no single, tangible bad guy in the film. It was the First Order as an organization that is portrayed as the villain. I think the arc they have planned for Kylo Ren is different than the one they had for Vader.

obviously changes some canon

why do you guys keep talking about canon change? what change are you referring to?

this is a story /time frame that has not happened before/ "yet"

so its not like-say- some Trek show that is a prequel to some trek shows and a sequel to one other and is changing things previously established in a trek show that ran 50 yrs ago but set in time after the current show... it was confusing just to type that :)

Exactly. They have done no violence to SW canon and in fact by being sequels and not prequels they have made it easier not to mess up canon.
