opinions; leave laptop plugged in or let run on battery?

The manual I got with this laptop, that I do not move and have set up on a stand with a external keyboard and mouse, doesn't state either way.

Should I only plug it in to charge it, or is it ok to leave it plugged in all the time?

I would guess it is ok to leave it plugged in, but I have read different opinions on diff websites.

So, what do you think? Remember, I have no need for it to be 'mobile' so can I just leave it plugged in all the time or will that somehow cause damage?

Thanks ahead of time for everyone (again) bearing with my tech ignorance

Leave it plugged in. The real life time for a laptop battery is between 2 and 5 years before replacement. Leaving it plugged in significantly extends that time. If you can hook it to a TV and use a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can extend it's usefulness tenfold because you can stream on your TV, watch movies and play games, plus use it as your computer monitor. By thoughtful use of your projector switch (usually F9) on the laptop, you can easily use both of your screens. I have one TV set up like that, and the other has a dedicated computer attached which is hidden behind a cabinet. I use that with a wireless mouse and keyboard that is always on my coffee table. That is how I watch Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and also my downloaded movies and TV series.

Is it a Lion or LiPo battery? Or is it yet a different type?

Some laptops may be able to run plugged in without having a battery connected. If your laptop is one of those type laptops I would recommend leaving the battery out and only put it in in case you do need to take your laptop somewhere. That should preserve/extend battery lifespan.

If used, over time, the battery full-to-empty lifespan will generally deteriorate up until the point where the battery is barely capable of holding any charge at all, but that would probably depend on the type of battery.

In all honesty I must say that I'm lazy and just always have my laptop plugged in and running. I'm aware that that's not the best for this particular type, but whatever. It's generally not really an issue because there's usually power sockets around when I want to use my laptop. If taken out it would probably last about 50-55 minutes on battery if the screen brightness is turned to it's lowest setting.

it is a laptop where you must remove the entire back toget at the btry. it is not one of those that has a sep, "push button and btry falls out". idk, the btry may be 'hard-put' in and cannot be replaced? another new facet to the buy, trash, repeat, cycle. so know when the btry dies, you buy a whole new laptop? dont know

In a laptop (not necessarily an ultrabook), the battery can always be replaced and is never "hard put". You should be able to remove it after taking the back cover off. I agree with Lord Ba'al about running it without the battery, but in the absence of that, leave it plugged in AND running like he suggested. I do it the same way he does.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if the battery couldn't be taken out if it's not made easily accessible.

That's true. I once had a rechargeable vibrator whose battery died and it was impossible to access the compartment that housed the battery to replace it. My weekend was ruined suffice to say. And the damn thing became nothing more than an obscene, $200 paper weight. That's what I get for buying Chinese crap. Live and learn.

Don't open up your laptop if there is still warranty left on it, otherwise you void that.

It'll void warranty if there is any left. No more coverage in case some other shit happens.

Most newer laptop chipsets have switching on the PSU that when the battery is at 100% and it detects AC power it disengages the battery and runs solely on the AC.

so 2 things

i have noticed that my 'power meter' normally stays at 100% or 99%

then sometimes it dips to like 95%

is this a result of what you are talking about JOE?

---------------
i took all the infinitesimally small screws out of the back the other day

then i couldn't get the back off. the thing is so slim there is no place to get a start--at least not with my big fingers

i dont have any tools slim enough/flat blade, to get i between either

i am really not that interested in getting into it then i'll chance cracking the case or something.

Yes that is one evidence of "PSU throttling".

If you are serious about it, try finding a Youtube video that shows how to take your specific model apart. It helped me once or twice when fixing up my own and my wife's laptop.

believe it or not , that is how I--ME! of all ppl-fixed my sons XBOX 360!

only had to replace the dvd drive. got a new one, but getting the case cracked open? i had to buy a special head screwdriver from amazon!

it only cost like $2 on prime

but yeah-if it were not for YT i would not have been able to do it

(the only thing i didn't do was the soldering, i took it to someone to do that part--still saved a hell of a lot of money by doing the other things myself though.)
