New Episode!

First impressions - acting good, okay story but like the E07 needs to be a little more subtle in its commentary. Nonetheless a good entry in the fan fiction standard bearer!

They have managed to outdo the original series! The production values are better, the acting is arguably better, the sets are crisper and look better than the original, and it's just first class. It's actual Star Trek.

Okay, this episode was....reaching. It was trying to do a race piece, but it mostly fell flat on that level. It was definitely a multi-cultural commentary and it was a very watchable episode. I like the way they have Nurse Christine Chapel at Starfleet Academy getting her Doctorate. It makes the presence of Lt. Elise McKennah (Ph.D ship's counselor) part of TOS canon. She is a much better character, and she can engage where Majel Roddenberry could never have acted herself into. She is an excellent addition and feels like she should have been in the original TOS crew.

Notice how this production is cranking out the episodes with a much shorter interval between them? Good stuff. By the way, this show is building new canon in the TOS timeline. Five Year Mission. TOS only did three years of it.

I agree it was watchable and that the acting was very good. I just wish they would employ even a little subtlety in the social commentary. This is twice now they have been overly heavy handed. Oh well.

OMG, who is this screaming queen with the bad toupee playing Captain Kirk??? Are we actually to believe he's heterosexual? Puh-leez! The only attraction he feels towards the female form is a subliminal envy for the clothes they wear. No doubt this peter puffer keeps his balls in Spock's tricorder purse (which he also envies as it's rather fetching with its black leather strap that would totally match the black leather pumps he keeps hidden under his bed).

Vic Mignogna? Uh, no. :) Not gay. He actually does the best Kirk ever done besides William Shatner, and he is a better actor than William Shatner by a longshot. Have you watched any of these episodes from Star Trek Continues? The last 5 or so have been better than the TOS episodes from any of the three seasons.

John De Lancie contributing to this show, fascinating. It's good to see that he's a team player who isn't above taking risks on something like this.

So, I take it you do not know much about Star Trek Continues / Star Trek New Voyages or Star Trek Phase II? These prouctions fall somewhere between fan productions and officially sanctioned series. Star Trek New Voyages was the first, then they became Phase II but they are now defunct. They had their own Enterprise sets. Star Trek Continues is operating with permission from CBS/Paramount, and their awesome sets have even been used by Paramount/CBS for episodes of TNG and Deep Space Nine. They can only do TOS, but other than that they can use everything else used in the show and even add more. This is not some garage band type deal. :)

Phase II came first then was renamed New Voyages, and after a short time it was abandoned. It had some good stuff and also had Star Trek alumni guest starring on it more than once.

Star Trek Continues came later and has as OM said the really professional style production. John DeLancie isn't the first established actor to appear - other episodes have had Erin Gray, Gigi Edgely, Michael Dorn, Jamie Bamber and others. Plus, Star Trek Continues has a specific length - 11 episodes - after which it ends. That comes from its mission to "complete" the original voyage of the Enterprise from TOS. Originally it was 13 episodes but the whole Axanar (Alec Peters) fiasco affected STC too.

I stand corrected...Phase II was first, then New Voyages was what it was renamed to. I don't understand why STC did not just buy New Voyages' bridge set instead of building their own, but I see that they have tweaked their quite a bit. There are actual monitors with TOS displays on them, and sometimes other stuff.

The bolded, I was not aware of. 11 episodes? Please link to the exact page where you saw that. Thanks.

The June 2017 entry mentions it

Basically it was only meant to go thirteen episodes in the first place. But, the Axanar fiasco and resulting changes meant they had to use on hand funds and supplies which meant they had to end at episode 11.

This is important! You should have posted it as soon as you saw it. :) Anyway, here is the blog entry:

http://www.startrekcontinues.com/blog.html

The cast and crew of STAR TREK CONTINUES finished principal photography on our series a few months ago, and we are working at warp speed to put all of the finishing touches on Episodes 9, 10, and 11 – which will complete our salute to The Original Series.

And while we are all sad to see STAR TREK CONTINUES come to a close, we have committed to our supporters that these last three chapters in our story will be finished and released this year. That means three more upcoming premieres of the continuing voyages of the Starship Enterprise.

Episode Nine is in sound design and will have a debut screening at the end of July at Florida Supercon in Ft Lauderdale. We’re so honored to announce some very familiar names in guest starring roles for Episode 9, including John de Lancie and Anne Lockhart.

Of course, John needs no introduction. His character will be among the first to appear on our Planet Set (constructed with support from our crowdfunding campaign).

Anne Lockhart may be best known to science fiction fans for her role as “Sheba” on the original Battlestar Galactica, but she has also been in hundreds of other productions and commercials – including a recurring role in Chicago Fire on NBC. (And, of course, her Mom was June Lockhart, the matriarch of Lost in Space!)

John de Lancie, Chuck Huber (McCoy) and I will each be guests at Florida Supercon. So we hope you might plan a trip to Fort Lauderdale to enjoy the world premiere screening of “What Ships Are For,” at the end of July. Details about the screening will be on the Supercon website.

Finally, our remaining episodes constitute an exciting two-part story that will not only finish out our series, but bring an exciting and satisfying conclusion to the original five year mission of the Enterprise. Episode Ten is set to premiere at Salt Lake Comic Con (the weekend of September 21) and Episode Eleven will have its debut screening at New York Comic Con October 6.

Keep this comm channel open for more info about our final installments. And again, thank you to all of you for your enthusiasm and support for this "love letter to Star Trek".

Peter Puffah!!! :icon_lol:

I have to admit that this show is pretty good for what it is. I mean, it manages to capture the spirit and style of the original show, and does so quite well (including the campy-ness). :beckett_new049:
