Using Eagles to 'kill' drones--great idea!

the French Air Force has been experimenting with the use of Eagles to capture and 'kill' rogue drones in restricted airspace. i believe it is a program now limited to controlling civilian drones but could be easily adapted to taking down the smaller military drones as well

this is a great example of merging nature and the animal world with the tech of today. other nations use multi million dollar missiles (Israel used a millions dollar PATRIOT missile to kill a mid sized commercial drone a few yrs back--but hey, they were spending American money not Israeli, they don't care) to do the same with a lot more risk and danger to the public and other personnel on the ground

I guess the french DO come up with good ideas from time to time

I dunno...to me, civilian drones represent empowerment, not a threat. Military drones are weapons of offense ALWAYS, even when unarmed. Civilian drones are defensive and often reveal illegal activities of the military, law enforcement and other "legal" entities doing illegal things.

they said 'rogue drones' that and reading elsewhere that there is an increasing amount of irresponsibility with drone usage, leads me to believe that they are speaking of civ encroachments on restricted airspace--like knuckleheads flying their drones into airport 'close' areas and other restricted areas like nuclear power plants or other facilities

some ppl seem to think that with every new tech available to civvies in general that they will use it responsibly and respectfully JUST BECAUSE that is what they would do. when in fact, every new tech release seems to lead to new problems and new hacks and methods of blackmail and digital sabotage, crime in general.

of course it is a small percentage that does these things, but something must be put in place to either stop the abuse before hand or after the fact--i prefer prevention

i am positive that is what this program is for-especially in liberal socialist france! to police up the messes Johnny makes when he loses control of his drone and it flies over Marshall Petain airfield

and as to the 'great idea' part that is, it is a much better way of dealing with drones then using a multi million dollar PAC 3 PATRIOT missile to shoot one down

Israel did this a few yrs back and then tried to short step the criticism on the overkill, they tried to hail it as an achievement--a first at shooting down something so small with the PATRIOT system

an eagle could go up, capture the drone bring it back and potential get forensics and intel from it

little Tommy-a boy man of 36, living on his Mom's couch, will be flying his drone into and over neighbor's yards and checking out Sally Sue in her bikini-or less- when Sally's Daddy blasts it with his 410 and tosses it in the garbage

Tommy will then sue for infringements of his "rights" and some court will agree with him. probably get money for being 'emotionally scared' for being exposed to the violence of a firearm.

The only winner will be Tommy's mom as his newly won earnings will get him his own apartment...

In that sense, I think that somebody flying in the airspace over your home is trespassing in the legal sense. The airspace over your home is also private.

Having said that, do we as citizens also have the right to kill police drones intruding in our airspace without a warrant? I think we do.

i think iasked the same on her about a year ago---they can fly over your property, but how low can they get before it is trespassing?

i asked the local state police and they id not know--i think it may be a case of laws and regs not having caught up with tech yet

which makes me ask-do you foresee a future where personal tech develops and is released so fast that the govt will require that they have laws written about it first before someone can own it? also, will the govt demand the method to 'defeat it' (ex: the San Bernandino shooter's iphone) before they allow it to go to market?

i think it is possible--i would be more worried of a democratic liberal govt doing this then a conservative one-whose adherents thrive off of the economy and the wealth of others
