Wonder Woman - the first DC film that is competent!

Yes, Wonder Woman is the first DC film that feels like it was made by people who understand what a superhero film should be, and not the thankfully departed Zack Snyder model of dark, pretentious and overly operatic.

So, what are the good things:

1) The tone is a massive improvement over prior DC efforts, especially stuff like the turgid Batman v Superman. It has actual humor woven into the story and is a straightforward superhero origin story.

2) Most of the acting is good. Chris Pine is entertaining as Steve Trevor and the villain (Ares) is also interesting to watch. But, the star of this show is Gal Gadot and she turns in an excellent piece of work, both in the acting and action arenas. Anyone aware of her background (combat instructor in the IDF; Giselle from the Fast and Furious films) knew she would handle the action pieces easily and well. She also showed acting chops before and in this film put them on full display.

3) The film is literally brighter. Remember the constant dark and muddy visuals in the other DC disasters? Not here - you can actually see what is happening here. That said, they still need to learn how to use colors - it still has that overly monochromatic color palette Snyder liked, just with more light.

My question is - will DC learn anything from the night and day difference in the reaction to Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman?

I should also have noted that Wonder Woman came in at less than half the budget of Batman v Superman, and as such is already well in the profit zone.

Everything you said, and especially the bolded. :) I loved this film. Gal Gadot pulled it off beautifully, and this new Wonder Woman is fleshed out already, from child to adult, from past to present AND tied into the present day through Batman. Surprisingly, Chris Pine brought Steve Trevor to life. I liked him in this more than I like him in NuTrek. His personal style served him in this role very well. And the special effects! They were amazing and high quality CGI but NOT over the top anywhere remotely close to the pew pew fest that was Batman vs Superman.

Overall I totally agree with you, this is their best so far.

This one is easy:

The costume looks fine. Remember this Wonder Woman is from DC New 52 not the older comics - she is the daughter of Zeus and has powers like those of Thor.

She will take on the red white and blue thing eventually, as it is the custom of the Amazons to take on the colors of the nations they protect, no?

Ok saw it and LOVED it! Snookie and I are both into mythology so loved the backstory. Chris Pine was good (and as Snookie says - drool worthy!) as steve trevor. Loved Robin Wright as her leather-faced aunt! a good actress who doesn't rely on "pretty" to do a role! LOVED the WWI background. (recently have been reading a lot abt WWI due to a book series I stumbled across... not something I knew much abt) Over all excellent movie. Far above most of the superhero movies out there. Gal Gadot is great as wonder woman. (and fie on those pussy arabs who are scared of an Israeli actress!)

I found Wonder Woman oddly enjoyable.

I wonder if the sequel will play in WWII.

The "pun" was Wonder Woman 1 - WW1 - World War 1, Wonder Woman 2 - WW2 - World War 2. I guess either it wasn't funny or too well disguised.

The comics play most of her stories in WWI, but the movies can do what they want, and moving her forward is going to have to happen at some point, like they did for Captain America.

Gal Gadot did compete in and win the Miss Israel pageant 14 years ago that is true. She also served as a combat instructor in the IDF, acted in other films before Wonder Woman, does her own action scenes, married with two kids. They did well to land her to play Wonder Woman before Marvel figured out a way to snap her up.
