Try reading any of the plot summaries and actually understanding the plot....a sure sign Kurtzman was involved.

The Mummy is to put it lightly an incoherent mess. I actually half expected to see Damon Lindelof wrote the story....

The thing is, Tom Cruise can't be blamed for this fiasco. When he has a decently written script and a competent director he can turn in good work (see Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation).

It was not Tom Cruise at all. Kurtzman is the reason the movie tanked.

The problem is the studios get a far smaller piece of the international take (especially in the case of China) than the domestic take.

I much prefer the first two movies to be honest. Not a bad B class movie just something to pass the time.

This looked terrible from the get go.

The first two were fun and fresh, but this thing was just a letdown.

They did their research and they put in a lot of effort in the first 2 movies. You can just tell from trailer whether it looks terrible or whether the movies is not going to be enjoyable through our eyes just by watching this scene with this crappy shot :p

A frame for frame remake of the original that starred Boris Karloff would have been 1000X better.

The Belle of the Ball
WHY DID they remake it so close to the last time? especially given the last time was a hit??? just don't understand.....

2017 is not over yet but with 4 months to go and summer over almost in america, I see 2017 being the worst year for hollywood in a long time.

Basically the only two films this year with healthy boxoffice have been Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Wonder Woman. The rest have either barely drifted along or tanked pretty hard.

The surprise tank to me was War for the Planet of the Apes. It's supposed to be a decent film but for it to only draw about half of what Dawn of the Planet of the apes did was surprising. Probably has something to do with a really poorly thought out promotional campaign.

Box office fatigue had to set in at some point. These days the theater experience is too expensive and unsatisfying. Even the most spendthrift idiot with a credit card is starting to realize a night at the movies is not worth the return on investment in the long run.

This. It is just not worth it. Something insidious that is being added in many mall-based theaters is that after 5pm, the parking structure becomes "valet only". REALLY? So, you have to choose between parking in the outside lot, then going inside and paying more than $15.00 per person, with $6-$8 popcorn, a $4.00 Coke (or $2.00 water), $4.00 candy or a hot dog...er, Pink's branded hot dog, which bumps the price to $6.00. All that, and then you watch a movie that is vapid and boring.

I think what happened is the formulaic movie. They take boring actors and actresses, then push them out there again and again (Hi Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Ryan Gosling), and put them in some empty boring story that nobody wants to see. Oh, and lack of diversity. They are still ignoring demographics. They are also giving the movie making jobs to the same no-talent hacks like Kurtzman and Abrams.

Neither Guardians 2 nor Wonder Woman fell under the formulaic scenario - maybe why they are really the only two flat out hits this year?

Jennifer Lawrence may be the most overrated actress out there today. And if you really look at her filmography the Hunger Games films and X-Men Days of Future Past represent almost all of her boxoffice "draw" - and it is very arguable whether she was the reason those films were watched in the first place.

Agreed. It is the non-formulaic movies which get the attention. All the others are like the cereal aisle at the supermarket.
