I realize that I have not posted on Season 10 yet. That is because I have been collecting my thoughts especially in light of the news that Peter Capaldi is leaving after this season and Steven Moffat will be turning over the showrunner reigns to Chris Chibnall. So we have a complete changeover starting in Season 11.

By the way, BBC has committed to seasons 11, 12,13,14 and 15 recently.

I guess my feeling about this season so far is "meh". The stories have been simplified a lot which disappoints me, as I really liked the more complex stories in Season 9. Peter Capaldi is still great as The Doctor but I am not feeling the new companion yet (Pearl Mackie). Not sure if it is acting or directing but she feels almost like a pantomime of a person rather than a person.

We'll see if it gets better later in the season - it's almost like this season is a placeholder in preparation for all the new people next season.

Is he still commissioned to be through the next 4 seasons?

I think the key to longevity in Dr Who is the ease in which they can change Doctors now. When I started watching it in the early 1970s, it was already on the Fourth Doctor (played by Tom Baker). I should get back into this. :)

It is unique among shows in that the backstory lets them change actors playing the lead without changing who the lead character is - when the actor changes they write a story where the Doctor is critically injured and as a Time Lord his body regenerates. The new actor is still the Doctor even though they look different and may show different personality traits.
