I just saw this. I rather like the premise, and the production values were top notch in terms of cinematography and special effects. The CGI was extremely well done, and there was lots of action and some interesting characters to get into. The premise was a bit tough to accept, but it worked for the most part. I cant give it away too much, but a lot of the movie has to do with seeing things over and over and over and over again. That part got a bit exhausting, and had me looking at the clock to see how far along the movie was. These "resets" were central to the plot, but it felt like too many of them were going on, and when it finally ended, it felt like I was exhausted.

This one is worth seeing, but Im not sure if I could rewatch it.

I've seen it four times already, twice in the theater, twice on Blu-Ray. I might not watch it again for quite a while, but I liked it a lot.

That's actually two watchable Tom Cruise films in a row....maybe he is on a streak?

Ghost Protocol is also pretty decent.

We all know my dislike of Tom Cruise as a person, he being the equivalent of a pile of "horse apples" steaming away on the hot pavement on a 95F day. The man seems like an insufferable chode. That said, he did a good job in Oblivion and he does seem to do a fair amount of scifi type of movies so I would definitely watch this one. The fact that Emily Blunt is in it helps a lot as she is quite appealing.

*I remember hearing how Cruise, who is very short, has to stand on boxes during some of his scenes. And I found it funny that they were careful in War of the Worlds to shoot it so that it looked like he was taller than his teenage son.

I think his agent is picking the right films for him to be in. He does scifi well...and this movie is definitely scifi. The writing is carrying these films like Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow. Honestly, you could plug another actor in there but not just any actor. Will Smith could not do either of these films and neither could Brad Pitt. But Leonardo DiCaprio could have pulled either of them off. I havent seen Ghost Protocol.

I'd say Christian Bale could have done them too. I have to admit I dislike Leonardo DiCaprio. I thought he stunk up the screen in Titanic (but then again I despise that whole film) and haven't liked any of his other flicks.

Christian Bale is too severe to do the role I think. He could have done this, sure...but there would have been no chemistry between him and Emily Blunt, and with Cruise there was some, surprisingly. DiCaprio works because he looks rather harmless physically. I thought Titanic was overdone and too dramatic, but I did like it. :)

This one you might like. But the "resets" get tiresome. But the movie never puts you to sleep.

I think when I watched this a while back I did have mixed feelings. Tom did not a bad job especially the portrayal of a beaten down individual who has constantly been through the same loop over and over again. Everything else like the action was good, bit too much of the shaky cam when fighting the aliens who look like walking writhing black spaghetti, called mimics but don't actually mimic anything on this planet.........right.

I guess some of my issues come from the practical stand point. Firstly you have exo suits which while they enhance the strength of the wearer but do little int he way of protection for the individual or the components. This is like building a tank only with none of the armor plates that protect the vital parts.

The invasion is probably one of the most stupid aspects I have seen. Yes they were trying to do a futuristic D-Day landing, but it doesn't make any sense. Did the last 80 years of warfare and military strategy prove anything? So they go in both aircraft (slow moving helicopters compared to high altitude aircraft) and landing craft in the middle of day light. Do they not presume the enemy doesn't have any kind of long range radar? Or any kind of detection devices considering the aliens having been fighting for the past 6 years.

So for some reason the military of the future doesn't know what a fast jet is, like the A10 or F18 or even what artillery, or even naval weaponry like tactical nuclear missiles from submarines or cruise missiles. Hooray for future technology, bringing us closer...........to the enemy.

As an action movie it did the job, it was interesting or held my interest. The time travel thing did get a little silly considering the plot hole since the aliens know how to control it, meaning why didn't one Alpha just commit suicide if something went wrong to reset the day.

for awhile now, anytime a Cruise sci fi movie comes out, I wonder just how much "DIANETICS" is in the mix?

oh, it may not be overt, but i believe his scientology beliefs and those of the cast and crew involved season the work

no single defining spot, just a theme

and add that to his (and some other scientology actors) work load--as i have said before, I believe that to stay so busy is a way of them doing their personal 'tuning' and ,well

i think my suspicions are found somewhere in this quote:

"Scientologists also believe that people have innate, yet suppressed, power and ability which can be regained if cleared of enforced and unwanted behaviour patterns and discomforts.[3][4] Scientology is described as "a religion to help people use scientific approaches to self-actualize their full potential."[5] Believers reach their full potential "when they understand themselves in their true relationship to the physical universe and the Supreme Being"

So, Cruise's "true relationship..with supreme being" is that of actor. so keep busy and engaged and he is on the road to full self actualization/potentials reached?
(same with Will Smith "closet scientologist?" and Travolta and some others)

Hollywood always "edits" the military and its capabilities and tactics/techniques to fit the script.

Use this example and apply it to everything else you see Hollywood/liberals in general do with their handling of the military--

I have not seen it yet, but I hear that many critics pan AMERICAN SNIPER as being inaccurate and showing a "fantasy" of how deployed service members can be in nearly constant and or steady contact with their family members--that is showing Chris Kyle talking to his wife from the battlefield on a cell phone

Yes!!! This capability does exist and is fully utilised by nearly every deployed service member--cell ph, sat phones, internet (the military and their families just may be the single largest user group of SKYPE) connections do very well exist either through commercial contracted service or through military switchboards in theatre

BUT,this does not fit the narrative of the deployed lonely soldier cut off from contact with family, becoming a murderous sociopath JUST BECAUSE he/she cannot talk to their loved ones

It enrages many on the left when they use this in their talking points and are then proved wrong--if someone stands up to them that is

So, take this one example and apply as a type of "plug it in formula" for nearly anything to do with the military and Hollywood/liberal beliefs

So they are making a sequel that is a pre-quel

apparently, once they released the DVD/BLU RAY with the new name "LIVE,DIE,REPEAT" the thing started making some money and garnered enough interest by various hollywood power ppl to get a sequel/prequel made

because apparently what Tommie wants, Tommie gets!

and again, like I have said before, regarding his religion, I really think its tenet of "exhaust thyself to your betterment" (well, I made that up, but I get that feel from what I have heard of them) making him work seemingly so hard at such physically demanding roles

what has it been? 20 action packed movie and only one I'd consider really good? that being OBLIVION. pretty crappy ratio

Mission Impossible was amazing.

I put the five Mission Impossible films like this:

Mission Impossible - I liked it. Good plot and not overblown.

Mission Impossible 2 - Did not like it. It felt like a motocross movie not a real spy film.

Mission Impossible 3 - Okay. Better than 2 but not as crisp as 1

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - Liked this one a lot. It is really close to MI1 to me.

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation -Another quality entry. Very old school in a lot of ways and felt in places like a two hour episode of the original series.

I almost completely agree with your assessment, except for Ghost Protocol, I didn't feel much for that one. But I was only referring to the first movie really.

Never heard of Rogue Nation. Is that an official movie?
