Carrie Fisher who is most famous for playing Princess leia in Star Wars is dead at age 60. She was flying to Los Angeles from London, and had a heart attack and never recovered.

If any characters in any film could never be replaced by another, Princess Leia was one of them. You will be missed Carrie Fisher, may the Force be with you!

I saw that. Sad. I imagine the substance abuse earlier in life took its toll and partly contributed.

Heavy on the drugs. It's the same reason why George Michael died. The assholes that continue to sell drugs and continue to make money when they should be finding a cure for the addiction. Life is hard and very tough, but usually mental illness cannot be won with drugs or alcohol. I really wish that prohibition was brought back but obviously it won't because the government makes far too much money from it and LEA need to get a little more intelligent on war on drugs rather than just increasing the sentences and increasing the severity. Addiction cannot be cured by locking them or treating them animals.

What is the psychology behind drug abuse? Why do people take it in the first place? How is it that after so many warnings, people still take it?

You cannot cure any addiction by prohibition. The root cause (usually emotional) needs to be addressed. Other addictions include sex, food and many others which do not involve drugs.

given who her parents are, and the Hollywood time period she grew up in, her addiction is understandable, though I don't say it was right.

many child stars and other non celebrity kids of stars from that period grew up "wrecked" from the get go, to the fault of their parents

Just WHAT????

my guess is that the two had an even stronger mother daughter bond then usual

and perhaps Debbie was even more connected to Carrie remembering all the shit she saw between her mom and dad

like Dad checking out on them to "comfort" and then marry Liz Taylor

all those years of 'protecting(or trying)' and then death was one thing she couldn't protect her from--not to mention kid dying before parent issue as well

the "will to live" can be snuffed away so easily--far easier then we like to think; Debbie does have 3 or 4 other kids and grandkids

Who says you can't die from a broken heart? But then when someone is eighty-four I think it doesn't take much encouragement to kind of "move on" like some fans of "LOST" and "Buffy" kind of know about.

Carrie Fisher always worried her obit would only say she was Debbie Reynold's daughter. Instead Debbie's read that she was Carrie Fisher's mother! What a couple of great actresses. Debbie was unforgettable in Singing in the Rain and Princess Leia was something new- a princess that kicked ASS! RIP ladies!

Carrie was also an excellent script doctor. She probably made more money for Hollywood as a script doctor than an actress. Lots of people can write a Hollywood blockbuster, but not everyone can write believable dialog that can be spoken by the actors.

she had quite the "cocktail" of drugs in her system! Heroin, coke and ecstasy... sounds like the "highball" that killed River Phoenix!
