WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

First full trailer

a real looking organized military force of humans (as in, no recoiless rifles on jeeps and a school bus full of armed radiation sick "soldiers") with actual fighting vehicles of today and apache helo's etc

apes have some firearms--do NOT SEE how a group of apes so poorly armed and however intelligent could hold out against a force so well equipped, but I am sure that will be the underdog msg and 'climate change'/ nature hugger narrative of the movie = mother nature (apes) punishing man (the well armed humans) for transgressions against the planet

and again the whole "war for the planet" thing is looking kind of sketchy when the war seems to be a battle confined to the bay area of Cali

looks like a well made film though

This entire series is movies is BRILLIANT storytelling. The original 6 movies was always one of my favorites, but watching them one after the other leaves so much of the story with gaps and holes. The original is, at it's heart, a time travel saga. But these new films are not a time travel saga, they are stories of paradigm shift and evolution and conquest.

and climate change

listen to the Harrelson character's narrative

something about "we created you (the apes but also could be inferred to apply to the "mess" of the environment) and now we are paying..." or words to that effect

make no mistake--when you see a heavily mechanized military force with tech heavy soldiers blowing up and attacking forested wooded redoubts in the pacific rain forest, the movie also become a vehicle for the climate change movement--ala the way M.A.S.H, was a narrative against Vietnam but set in Korea or any other movie filled with allegory and symbolism

but yeah--other then that-looks great!! Time to hunt for my boyhood P of the Apes action figures and GI Joes!!! :) :)

I assume they are going to eventually have a nuclear holocaust, since that event is central to the original story and this one is telling much of the original story. Remember, we still have the two lost astronauts which were headed for Mars (which will give them a reason to have supplies if they land on the earth in the distant future (totally guessing and speculating here! :)). I have loved each of these movies, and they never give in to cheap action scenes and unnecessary CGI overload. Everything is enhanced and given meaning by the story and not by what looks cool (but it can't help being totally cool). The story is definitely cerebral and not superficial.

Nah but i see at least 6 movies. Since this story is linear, it will have an actual ending. I think they could throw it in a different direction. Also they do npt have to have 1000 year gaps like the first one.

Latest trailer:

This one looks pivotal in this new Apes series. It looks like a completely different take on the original, and effectively solidifies this series as being NEW and DIFFERENT from the original to the point of being a different story altogether. I am loving this!

Coming July 14

That's what I am hoping is the case. Also that there is no time travel element at all - keep the story linear.

I agree. The real interesting part of the movie sagas of the PotA, is that the original 6 movies themselves were a re-imagining of the original novel, whose story mostly resembles (believe it or not), the ridiculous Tim Burton version. The movie saga was only loosely based on that story, and it took off in a different direction starting with Beneath the Planet of the Apes.

same trailer.....

still don't see how those apes get their big fingers into the trigger guards of an M4

details details :)

as far as time travel or some non terrestrial input--if they want to keep the series going they will most likely go there

remember, there is a mission (to mars was it?) as well as how ever many humans in orbit on space stations, etc

This chart is size correct.

Many people assume chimp and gorilla hands are much larger than human hands and fingers, but they are surprisingly close in size and proportion.

The detail in the writing of this thing tells me that the arc has already been written (or at least storyboarded) all the way to the end. That means that the astronauts thread WILL be addressed at some point in these movies. The studios evidently had enough confidence in the Dawn movie to give War a greenlight even before Dawn even was released.

They are faithfully evolving the characters and the human/apes groups, and they are following a logical timeline. I am wondering just how the astronauts will come back into this? Will they have to throw a time travel thing into it? Probably. Just speculation though!

maybe time travel coming back in time, and space, from an established colony on mars and potentially facing off against an even more advanced simian society-one that has peacefully meshed with humans--like the one where we saw the orangutan teacher teaching the class of ape and human children in the one original film?

thats my guess

coming back to earth for its resources, etc

Seem the final trailer(s) were released yesterday

new footage and some new dialogue to accompany it

nothing really shocking though who the human girl is/may become is a bit interesting

"Battle for the Bay Area" I mean WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, final trailer:

Definitely not an established Mars colony. The human race succumbed to the Simian Flu, remember? No space travel, no colony. No resources or people to do it. In order to bring those astronauts back later in the film after the apes have established supremacy, they have to introduce time travel in some way. The supplies would be limited on that ship.

They really need to keep time travel out of it in these films. I think this movie is where we will really see the new series split with the original one and maybe we see the planet of the apes develop differently than what it was in the first film of the original series.
