10 episode series order with Zack Estrin as the showrunner. Normally I would be cynical in my prediction for this but it's being done by Netflix so who knows how it will turn out. I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle the character of Dr. Smith. He was such a campy, mincing queen that anything less will be a let down. :icon_lol:

It will only be Lost in Space if it is a family along with a couple of sneaky non-family members, a robot (they can make it have legs and be more humanoid if they want), a smartass (and smart) kid, a single bimbo and a hunk, and of course, a mincing queen (or perhaps a flamboyant pansexual). :)

I hope it's closer to the movie than the original series. I liked Dr Smith as a criminal/saboteur rather than a bumbling fool crying "Oh, William!" and complaining like a diva in every episode. That was all fine and humorous in the 60s but we're not of that era. Kind of like watching Star Trek fan episodes with plastic flashing buttons and pasted laminated stills for screens. :(

Um...the movie? Really? The movie was okay, but they overdid it. I think something in between might be good. Dr. Smith was like Mr. Fitzhugh was to Land of the Giants. I think they would need a selfish, narcissistic character. The Lost In Space movie was nicely updated, but it was so forgettable I don't remember any of the characters in it. I would have to rewatch it. :)

I'm not suggesting the series mimic the movie, I suggested it should be closer in era. I thought the movie was over the top, not a big fan, but I liked the premise and how the concept was updated. Smith was an operative of a terrorist faction who found himself an unwilling castaway on the ship (he was basically treated as a liability and left to die upon completing his mission) rather than a comedic quack who stowed away. I don't want 60s-style stories centered around morals and social lessons mixed with slapstick humor.

I totally agree with the bolded. I was never into slapstick humor. I did love all of the Austin Powers movies, but they aren't slapstick, are they? Some of my friends try and say they are. To me, slapstick is anything with Jim Carrey in it, all of the old John Belushi shit, all of the Airplane movies, etc. It has no place in science fiction.

The real question here is WHY are they rebooting Lost In Space when they could just use the premise and create a new show altogether? They are going to have to do that anyway.

I LOVED Austin Powers! :D

But, yeah, it was most definitely slapstick humor without going too far into clumsy "trip over my shoelaces" slapstick extremes.

I actually really enjoyed the original black and white DR Smith/ Lost In Space pilot where he actually is a very dark character but in later eps he began to ham it up and that made sense because the show was very hammy with a bit of scrambled eggs thrown in ...
Watched it every week anyway with all the other silly Irwin Allen shows of super silly tech at it's best ...

;) ;) ;)

Parker Posey?

The last time I saw her was in Blade:Trinity in a performance as female vampire Danica Talos that was so bad it was literally cringeworthy.
