This is better than the prior trailer simply because the tone is not all over the place.

This is better than the first one, but it still sucks and is still obviously no longer science fiction. The things we saw in there, like the Enterprise going through some sort of fluid (hopefully that was not space), We still have Spockhura going , and these dumb contrived accents for the aliens are just lame IMO. The visuals for the inside of the Enterprise are absolutely hideous. What the hell was this effect? In the center, you can see the Enterprise, seemingly plowing through space. WTF

Did you notice the sound effects of the shards coming at the Enterprise? RACE CARS! It sorta is understandable when you consider one of the main titles in the trailer says in large print FAST AND FURIOUS, but race cars? Really? The set designs look thrown together like one would do in a corner theater production.

It's more of a special effect movie. That's why I am not going to bother wasting my money on this or even bother to waste 2 hours on this.

It's a freakin greenscreen orgy. What particularly annoys me in that trailer is NuSpock saying "The fear of death is illogical". REALLY???? This Spock has not shown a single shred of logic throughout the reboot. Not one. He got into a fistfight with Kahn, beat the piss out of the Vulcan children taunting him (they were not logical either), and has a girlfriend. He is still with her after several years now? That would make them married in several countries even today. Most illogical. I am happy for Idris Elba, because since he is in rubberface, we really do not have to internalize his face associated with that awful character they have crafted out of latex.

UGH. This watching the two trailers back to back add up to a double scoop of doo. :( I really think this one is going to get slammed by critics. Did I mention that the effects in this are worse than the Star Wars prequels? There, I just did.

Meh.

I have broken comments for the second trailer into a new thread. I have watched it a few times, and I have been reading speculation and other stuff. There seems to be an NX class ship involved, since we see it a couple of times in the trailer. Also, some have said that the ship being destroyed by the shards is not the Enterprise (not likely, since it is the Enterprise crew using escape pods). I do like the space station they showed, but it's design makes no sense. A transparent shell? Looks cool though.

It still does not feel like Star Trek. I think that although the second trailer is not as grating as the first, it is showing us something not Star Trek.

Chris Pine; thinking movies are "dead"

"“You can’t make a cerebral Star Trek in 2016. It just wouldn’t work in today’s marketplace. You can hide things in there – Star Trek Into Darkness has crazy, really demanding questions and themes, but you have to hide it under the guise of wham-bam explosions and planets blowing up."

I am seriously thinking of seeing this tonight at a theater, only because NONE of the showings are sold out at AMC theaters where I like to go. There is a showing in just under an hour from now and it's a Thursday. I really would not be expecting anything great, and I still have not decided whether or not I want to go to the theater or download it in a few days....

Tickets are $12.00 ($14.00 if bought online). There is 3D, but why? There is IMAX too, but why? I can afford any of those tickets, but why would I need to see it in 3D or IMAX if it is a giant turd? The more realistic a turd is, not necessarily the better, right?

EDIT:

That quick, I have changed my mind. Why? I just read this (spoilers): http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/07/20/istar_trek_beyondi_an_unwatchable_steaming_pile_of_dung/

Whew!

There is a mix of good reviews and bad ones out there. I tend to ignore the ones from critics who are basically drama fans (Neil DeGrasse Tyson would make a fortune doing scifi reviews!). The comments from what I consider to be true scifi fans are decidedly MEH about this film. I really think I will pass on seeing this at the theater now. Some reviews have described the movie as a big screen TV episode. But in a couple of days it will be floating in the oceans waiting to be scooped up (by a garbage scowl or a pirate ship)

It also plunged in the number of people watching it too but the ghostbusters movie is killing it in the ratings. Got to love publicity though. All that hate of the ghost busters movies made people more curious to go out and watch it.

Ghostbusters is on track to take a financial bath and the reviews are highly suspect as some reviewers have already admitted giving it a positive review out of fear of SJW backlash if they said what they really thought.

I'm probably seeing this over the weekend. It's based on trekkie friends seeing it and saying that the characters feel properly "Trek" in it. We'll see....after the Into Darkness fiasco I am gun-shy.
