Star Dreck? Maybe not. CBS's new Star Trek to be in Prime Universe

Can we talk about hate on the new Star Trek series coming to TV in 2017 from Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin this early? We might as well get started early, because given what we already know, how will it be anything less than this?:

soap_opera_gatefans.png

The reason for that is the ingredients of the show. The writers are Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin. Click their names for their IMdB pages, and you do not see anything in there that makes for a good Trek series. That is, unless you want JJverse Trek, which is actually not the creation of JJ Abrams, but is the creation of Orci, Kurzman and Lindelov

Kurtzman and Lindelof and Orci crafted what people call the "JJverse of NuTrek". But JJ had little to do with it. This is the deeds of the "Trek" series coming out in 2017. And why did Kurtzman get this gig? Because of this:

And that is why this is going to suck. Well, This is the first in a string of troll-y, whiney Star Trek Fanboy rants I plan to spew.

Discuss Troll!

It's definitely not too early to be critical of what's to come. We all know how this will play out. The current template being used by these folks is out there for all to see.

The thing is, I do understand that Paramount and CBS want to make as much money as possible from their assets. That is the primary goal and they have to balance their goal of making that money against decreasing the value of their asset by changing it's DNA. It's like they are doing the equivalent of plastic surgery on it and changing how it looks and feels, mistakenly assuming that it needed "updating". Perhaps in visuals and concepts, but not in the writing and foundation of the Star Trek concept. They have changed that into a generic action/adventure thing, only wearing Starfleet uniforms.

How does a Star trek the musical sound to you?

At some critical juncture, Paramount and CBS both will suddenly realize that they have been misled by the bloated box office numbers. They will not connect the $15.00-$25.00 ticket fee for Star Trek in 3D and IMAX to their Pay TV audience. This series' audience will not be the audience that went to see it in the theaters. They will NEED loyal watchers (fans) to make it a success, and they will realize that there are far fewer of them than they might like. I liked The Avengers first movie, but I did not like the second, and I am not really looking forward to a third. I absolutely LOVED Pacific Rim, but I am not excited for a second one if they have the same characters. I would most definitely not watch it as a TV series.

CBS needs to have a Star Trek series that's Star Trek, and it is just not going to come from these writers. There is no way it can, and Kurtzman has shown us he does not get Trek. But hey, he created the universe for the two NuTrek movies which have made about a billion combined. So their flawed logic follows that a TV series should bring in decent numbers, right? I don't think so. Supergirl, NCIS, a new show called Limitless (based on the movie), Criminal Minds, the Hawaii Five-O reboot series...not excited yet.

CBS picking up Axanar or Horizons would make me take out my wallet and sign up.

Again, what moron is going to pay to get to watch a TV show like this? It's not gonna happen. We've been given decades of free Trek series. Why the hell would anyone pay for it now? Because it's somehow "better" this time around? Yeah right. :rolleye0014:

In order for me to start paying to watch a premise that's been run around the track, sodomized repeatedly then put back into the stable wet and sore, these producers would need to come over and personally clean my house each week. That's right, if they're not gonna personally scrub my toilet then they can kiss my lily white ass when it comes to watching their soap-fi dreck.

It's a basic economic issue - no one will pay for something they can get for free.

Supergirl is done by Gough and Miller, who did Smallville.

Exactly. That's why it's baffling to me that these producers actually think that changing the economic paradigm is going to work in their favor. That's just moronic.

TPTB for Trek have pulled or going to pull all Trek shows like in Netflix, to put them on the pay channel.

We had this discussion years ago.

Yes, we did.
No one wants to pay for shows, you get no shows.

That was your position yes. But every fan film, Star Trek Continues, Star Trek New Voyages, Axanar, Horizons, Renegrades and countless other smaller one-offs prove that is not the case. Also, people WILL pay to see what they want to see. The way they want to pay is what is at odds here. Nobody wants to pay CBS for a bundle of crap with Star Trek thrown in for bait. Nobody wants to pay advertisers. We do not need advertisers to be the reason for airing shows anymore.

They are doing that as we discuss this here. They are pulling them from syndication too.

At this point every single Trek series has been rerun to death. I'm in no hurry to pay to watch them again as I've seen them countless times already.

Give us NEW stories, like Star Trek Continues and Star Trek new Voyages and Axanar and Horizons give us, and put it in the familiar Star Trek universe that has been lovingly polished and crafted over the past 50 years. I will not pay a single dime to see this Kurtzman crap. Axanar and Star Trek New Voyages have each gotten more than $100.00 from me over recent years.

This gimmick of making ST "pay-to-play" reminds me of Sarah Palin's great experiment in creating a subscription-based web site. That attempt failed miserably as we predicted. I think we're right on this one too.

This Kurtzman guy is a broody, hipster type guy. He does not appear to be arrogant and pouty like say...Brad Wright or Loretta Mallozzi. However, he is a "sensitive type" and does best in character-driven writing (ie soap opera). He will take it personally when his series is rejected. I think it will be more like being dumped by a girlfriend for him than a slap in the face like we gave Brad and Cooper with SGU.

I think the NuTrek writers and JJ and those involved in it, think they have a winner on their hands that fans like and that automatically counts all former Star Trek fans and the history of Trek as part of itself. Sorry, but no! This year's Star Trek Creation Con in Las Vegas did not invite the NuTrek folks:

http://www.creationent.com/cal/st_lasvegas.html

After all, there are no Trek actual Klingons in NuTrek, no real Vulcans, no memorable ships or planets or alien species. Nobody wants the mechanical phasers or a briefcase or one of these:

Portable_transwarp_beaming_device.jpg

Nobody wants to be NuSpock or NuUhura, because now only couples can do that. NuSulu, NuChekhov and NuScotty? Who the hell cares? Just knowing this dumb series is coming pisses me off. :(
