The 100 on CW

So I saw this on NETFLIX. Thought it was a NETFLIX original as I never heard of it.

So, going into it, you already know there will be teen angst and shipping so if you put that in your hindbrind from the start, the rest of the show is pretty much okay.

A quirky blend of a show that reminds one of JEREMIAH, OUTCASTS and LOST (imo)

While I think that the TPTB's use of science in explaining/depicting radiation effects (97 yrs after a world devastating nuclear war) is a bit murky-I am no expert nor do I care to look it up--I just go with it.

While kind of predictable sometimes, it is a far better sci fi show then anything on SYFY-especially DEFIANCE or DOMINION or even SGU- it also seems to be getting better in the 2nd season-on air now

And other then that murky science, there is nothing-so far- that is fantasy, like insectoid aliens or FTL drives or hair blowing when there is no wind or other gimmicky, hokey stuff

Just saying it is entertaining and fairly watchable-has some good actors in it too

I watched about 15 minutes of this show until I got too annoyed by the teen characters and the awful quality of the actors. (and I watch & enjoy The Originals!)

Is this show really worth giving another chance?

It is actually a CW show--I just thought it was a NETFLIX original

I watched the whole 1st season in 2 nights in a total of about 3 hrs--FF'd through every "shipping" scene and just stuck to the core stuff--once I id who and what were core stuff :shame:

It picks up a bit near the middle of S1 and I watched a bit more of each ep then

S2--I watched nearly every minute of the eps

they seem to have gotten through all the "its a new show, so bear with us while we find our way" type thing and there are now definite sides/factions and important characters

at least it is sci fi--or maybe better description- future fiction?

I watch it but I find the show very irritating . Of course now that some adults have reach Terra Firma , they might start acting like people instead of Lord of The Flys .

But that is a thing though; no matter the level of human advancement or tech savvyness, ppl will be ppl and stupid teenagers will be stupid teenagers-particularly when exposed to a new environment without adult supervision. :icon_lol:

So, just back from its mid season break and still entertaining

(of course, as I said for starters--you HAVE to go into it knowing it is full of young adults and latent teen angst and shipping---once you accept that and put it to the flank, it is a pretty good show)

I liked how the previews for the last ep showed some kind of "demony" thing in the woods---come to find out, it is just a gorilla from the left overs of a zoo (D.C's? Baltimore's?)

Silly and simple I know, but it was clever and far more interesting then some outlandish "star child with blowing hair" or some quirky alien things with more endless brow ridges (and possessing high tech but walk around naked!) or other drivel that the copy cat TPTB's of other shows have been doing

yes, the 100 is meant for a younger audience, but it IS still a good sci fi/future fiction show

I watched a few episodes of the first season but gave up. I can't recall the episode title or number, but it's the one that introduced Dichen Lachman's character, but I never made it to that scene because I gave up in frustration on two separate occasions. I originally stopped at the point of the bomb on the station. It seemed too stupid to me that anyone would jeopardize their own safety by setting off a bomb in an already precarious space habitat. A friend convinced me to try it again because he thought the show was improving, but on my second try with that same episode I gave up during the scene on the bridge, when Jasper started firing his weapon blindly into the trees. Since then I have read a few synopses, but nothing has convinced me I made the wrong decision to stop watching.

It's an interesting concept on some levels but the impression I got was that teen angst would be the ruling theme so I only gave it a few minutes of my time initially. It failed to inspire me to become a loyal viewer.

And I should add that I didn't expect it to be a scifi show as it's obvious it's about human/societal interaction (in a bubble so to speak). There's nothing wrong with exploring this theme, especially in a new and clever way. But I just didn't find it new enough or clever enough to pique my interest. There seemed to be a Lord of the Flies element about it which thoroughly bored me to tears. Quite frankly I got enough of that shit back in 10th grade English class. No thanks. :rolleye0014:

i agree with those things you say

not saying it is a "stellar" performance or the show of the century, but it is better then most of the stuff that syfy is putting up these days

i think it is the concept of the show that i like the best and so far they seem to be sticking to that main idea

and yes, like i said, if you go into it knowing that teen angst and shipping will be in the mix (though it is used a lot less then in say ASCENSION or DEFIANCE, SGU, etc) then prepare yourself for it, one can keep in tune with the rest of the show

of course--dvr fast forward helps to :encouragement:

The first season is on Netflix so I assume the second will show up later. Maybe I'll give it another chance one of these days, but right now I doubt it.

Annoyed

Surly Old Curmudgeon
I rather like this show. Yes, I was concerned about the high number of children in the character list, but it turned out that they behave in a mature manner most of the time.

Turns out the strongest character in the show, Clarke, is one of the youngsters but does not act like a typical teenager.
Best I can figure is she had her training in @$$ kicking from both Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. That girl won't back down from anything.

I initially watched it because I am a big fan of Paige Turco, but Eliza Taylor was the best part of the episodes that I watched. Not enough to continue watching it though.

So last ep of season aired tonight

I must say-I really liked this season and this ep

and though blood and gore are not really my thing--especially if it is just gratuitous with no story connection--this must be one of the most bloodiest shows on tv (certainly network tv)

i really liked how there were no cliche happy endings in this ep--even though there was the consideration for all of those young children in the Mountain--there was no "green grass and everyone hugs it out" stuff at the end

plus we get a look at the guy who caused the war 97 yrs ago (97 yrs--how odd? there must be a reason for it coming up--like the AI intro'd tonight is programmed to fire more missiles at 100 yrs?) and no doubt the next "villain"for next season

too bad one of the shows main characters has been lost to the new WALKING DEAD spinoff (COBALT/FEAR THE WALKING DEAD wtf they are calling it)--Lexa the Commander/ hot chic
