It seems Netflix is growing confident with their original programming

Lets hope its worth the wait

Maybe there is some truth to Netflix offering that sg fan group a shot at a "reboot"/ sg continuation if they get the signatures...

JMS is a good writer, as Babylon 5 and Jeremiah proved. Alas the Wachowskis are basically hacks - pity they are involved.

Another strike against artsy fartsy flicks. I still have no clue how such films, which are great for artsy indie festivals, make it to mainstream theatric release.

Oh, no. I'm not dismissing indie films. I've enjoyed quite a few good indies but artsy fartsy belongs in festivals where they can be enjoyed by the same crowd that sits through poetry sessions given by mimes at coffee shops.

found this on J. Mike Strac. Seems he has a production company along with patricia Tallman (played one of the psychics on B5 and did stunt work also.). I find it nice to know that such sci fi veterans are out there trying to make more sci fi/fantasy-people who actually love the genre, versus say a JJ Abrams who hates Star Trek...

"Studio JMS, launched last year by Straczynski and CEO Patricia Tallman , was founded to produce a wide range of film, television, comics and other media properties. In addition to The Flickering Light, Straczynski's feature directorial debut, andSense8, Studio JMS has created a new comics imprint, Joe's Comics, published in partnership with Image Comics. Its first series, "Ten Grand," will debut in May. In addition to Sense8, Motion Picture Capital is producing The Flickering Light, which begins filming in Berlin later this year."

A few things they are also working on: EPIDEMIC-- http://blogs.indiewire.com/shadowan...-studio-jms-to-produce-new-tv-series-epidemic

And they are working with STARZ and Sam Raimi on VLAD DRACULA--Also seems there is a new series coming on STARZ called INCURSION-a military sci fi serial:

Starz announced today two new original series projects in development.

".......As part of Starz overall deal with "Spartacus" creator Steven S. DeKnight, Starz is developing "Incursion," an epic science fiction action-thriller that follows a squad of soldiers caught in a war against a hostile alien race. Each season the battle will be fought on a new, exotic planet as humanity punches deeper into enemy territory. Grittily realistic combat, darkly complex characters and intrigue on a cosmic scale will permeate the tale of fighting men and women facing the pressures of war and an enemy unlike any ever seen....."

The above sure sounds like the earlier description of what Blood and Chrome was meant to turn out.

I hope this is the start of a trend with these premium channels.

yeah now that you mention it.....

Between the "premiums" a few cable channels (BBCA,etc) and NETFLIX, I think we just might see some good stuff before we grow gray and too decrepit to work the remote

And why shouldn't an org like Netflix be doing these productions regardless of the genre? it's not like they are going to lose $7/month subscribers over an original production; "Well HOUSE OF CARDS sucks so I am saying screw access to thousands of streaming movies and shows (because of one orig production)" Not going to happen-the bulk of their content and the benefit of having it far outweighs any mistakes they may make in original programming

And they are not making mistakes either. I have not watched them, but apparently both LILLYHAMMER and HOUSE OF CARDS are doing extremely well. HOUSE OF CARDS lists on NETFLIX menu in the 'most popular on netflix' and 'trending on FB' menu's. It also appears freq on general ROKU 'banner ads'

I know this may be getting old, but IMO the offer by NETFLIX to those SG fan groups( to explore producing a SG show/movie) is a sign that netflix is paying attention to a dying genre (dying due to lack of good stuff not lack of fans) sci fi, and feel that they can make a mark in its resurrection. With a lack of big studio interest, I am sure that people like the Wachowski's and Strac, others are more then willing to work with NETFLIX. The actors they have attracted at netflix so far are no slobs either (Kevin Spacey and Steven Van Zandt).

Agree completely with bolded. I dont see why people thought it was all that. I have it in my collection...anybody up for a rewatch of it? It should be reviewed here.

Cloud Atlas was incoherent nonsense at best. At worst.....:smiley-015:

In order to do a rewatch of this, you would have to have a copy of it...do you? I already have mine.
